A brilliant little point-and-shoot which does almost all you need

Despite only having a 4MP sensor this takes pin sharp photos when viewed up to 1920x1080p (full HD). You don't need much more unless you are making photos for advertising hoardings. The autofocus is spot-on.

It produces better pictures than many SLRs I have used and at least one 645

I sold one 15 years ago at a car boot because I wanted something with more megapixels but I regretted the day

So I bought this and am very pleased with it

It came with the optional teleconverter which extends the zoom to 33mm (199mm 135-equivalent)

That's good for all except far-off wildlife etc where one needs a super-zoom

Excellent quality despite old technology

A bargain used - but original quality build shines through - 1st rate Olympus lens more than makes up for lack of pixels when it comes to photo quality compared to modern ware.

Olympus C-4000 digital camera

Nice camera to use, simple functions, but very capable camera. battery compartment holds 4 Aa type batteries, mine came with rechargeable ones, but would strongly recommend duracell if you dont have similar. the auto focus system works well for static images and the finger tip operation zoom lever acts steadily for all uses.
the memory card door has a "door open" warning, has built in flash but also facility to add on an extra flash unit if needed, but you will need an extra "olympus" cable to connect your flash gun, via a small 5 pin din connector on the side of the camera.
ok, so the camera is only 4mp [mega pixel] which in otdays range of camera, its on the small size, but still generates reasonable images for normal everyday useage

Olympus Camedia C-4000 Zoom 4.1 Megapixel Digital Camer

This is a retro camera but it produces very, very good pictures.

I have a Canon 40D and am quite accomplished as a photographer so you might think why do I want this camera. The reason is that it can be converted to infra-red quite easily so I took it apart taking care not to touch capacitors and swapped the IR filter for a piece of plain glass.

Photographs taken with this camera so modified with an infra red filter on the front can be seen on my flikr page, just search for L8NEK. I did have a C2020 which was fun I may get another, but the 4mp sensor of the C4000 means that you can get much more detail.

Even unconverted this is a very good camera and unlike many modern cameras it also has a lens on the front that is large high quality and fast.

I simply would not buy a modern 12 megapixel camera with a small lens as without a good lens on the front 12mp is pointless. Prints up to A3 hold up very well so this is what it is a very good retro camera that is real fun to use and because its retro a great talking point too. Reccomended.

All round a damn good camera with a wealth of settings. I use mine in black and white and it stays in the bag next to the Canon 40D.

Olympus Camedia C-4000 Zoom Digital Camera

Is it too early to go 'retro' with digital cameras? The C-4000 was my first digital camera after years of manual SLR's and the like. I picked it because of all those available at the time (in my price range) it was th eonly one that 'felt' like a camera!! Had some weight to it and a good 'feel'. Others I looked at felt just lightweight and didn't inspire me with confidence.

I always had great results with the camera, it was easy to use and had a great camera name behind it.

I lost my original C-4000 and had to make do with lesser quality makes/models in the interim until I was able to find a version of my old favourite again. It was like a happy reunion!!

Good make, good camera - would recommend to anyone!!

Olympus Camedia C-4000 Zoom

This is a good quality versatile camera. The one purchased is in, 'as new condition'.
Good points:
No pretence to look like a DSLR.
Many features to aid getting the effect you want to achieve.
A well thought out comprehensive combination of automatic and manual controls.
Very good quality prints upto about A4.
Bad points:
The relatively small capacity memory cards. These appear to be difficult to obtain and can be expensive. A little heavy on battery power. The menu can be a little time consuming to reach the controls.
