Olympus e410 fun

After taking photos with a camera phone and getting good feedback I wanted to learn 'real' photography skills. So I bought this camera knowing it was a few years old and has 2 lenses to play with (making me look the part lol). I feel this camera is great for a beginner as I'm able to play with settings (apature, shutter speed, exposure .etc). As far as I'm concerned the results I'm getting are great and easily transferred to my apple laptop to share/edit/view. Controls are simple and it's a nice size to. Maybe not the camera for someone who hasn't got a clue/care for photography but idea for someone who respects the skills and wants to learn the technical. This camera retailed at approx £500 back in the day and I picked it up for just over £100 but what I've learnt and the pics I've achieved are priceless.Read full review...

Olympus Evolt E-410 Digital Camera from eBay

The camera was bought as a Christmas present for self/family. We already have a compact digital Olympus, which has been very good for most purposes but wanted something with higher resolution and more ability to control the settings particularly with flash settings and aperture/shutter speed. we found that indoor shots were often out of focus with no way of actually controlling the focus. Took advice from a professional photograher friend as we wanted the camera to be as light and small as possible. Read lots of reviews online which indicated that it was a good buy. The Olympus is apparently the lightest and smallest at the moment . The cost from the main retailers was likely to be high with one asking over £700 at the time and most with only one lens but found the item on eBay offering a bonus of two lenses for under £400 so took a chance.
It has a large screen and has live view so you have the choice of using the view finder or screen to take pictures. The pictures are stored on Compact Flash cards or Olympus XD which was an atttraction as we already have some large XD cards for use with the Compact camera
So far we are very pleased with purchase. The quick start intruction sheet was in French?? but main book in English. Still learning the finer points of use but results so far with Christmas pictures taken indoors and out have been very good and the instruction book is clear.
The whole thing is heavier, bulkier and less convenient than the compact camera but am looking forward to the extra picture quality and variation that can be achieved.
Did consider the Nikon and Canon alternatives but they were heavier and /or didn't have the live view.
Happy with decision.

Olympus EVOLT E-410 Digital Camera

I am a keen photographer and currently studying freelance and commercial photography. I needed an SLR camera to assist me with my projects and to develop my skills further. I had read some good reviews about this camera and I have to say that all the reviews were correct.
This is a high resolution 10-megapixel camera and the images produced are sharp and crystal clear. When used with a tripod, I have taken some amazing photographs. The camera is relatively easy to use, and has the range of options that you would expect to have with a standard SLR.
The LCD monitor is of a good size.
My purchase came with two Zuiko zoom lenses which was a bonus and the lenses are very easy to change. It can also be used with underwater housing.
The camera body is reasonably light and compact for an SLR and came with camera strap but no case.
The instruction manuals are OK, and do provide some guidelines and explanations but could be more descriptive to benefit buyers with little experience of using SLR's.
There are built in shooting modes to choose from for taking shots in different scenes such as portrait, macro, sunset, beach, action, nightscene etc, that save you having to manually adjust the camera settings. However there is no movie option as per other Olympus models, and not as many built in Edit options.
Alternatively you can set the aperture and shutter speed manually fo greater control.
Overall I have been very impressed with the quality of the photographs produced and the camera was purchased at a very reasonable cost.

Olympus E-410 DSLR very handy & effective

My first DSLR, so take this with a pinch of salt : Really handy sized DSLR with the EXCELLENT lightweight 14-42mm kit lens. Good FPS, reliable auto exposure, quick A-F, although the (useful) strobing flash for low-light A-F takes some getting used to! Programmed Noise-Rdn to OFF and Sharpness-2 to regain what should have been factory detail (see DPReview), now pictures are GREAT! Colours very nice. Battery-life = Took about 500 mixed shots inc some flash over two days before suggesting a recharge. Body shape & grip texture are very easy to use. I'll give it a 'Good' rating simply because Excellent might b premature.
Side note : good adapter from Roxsen(HK) enabling me to use my old P-K 300m as 600m zoom ... so plenty of old-lens goodness for oly 4/3 body.

Olympus cameras

I have bought Olympus cameras from a long long time. Their first camera Olympus pen half frame is still with me(40 years ago and gives very good result. Progressively I have bought OM series starting with OM1/2/10 and then IS1000 series and now the digital. I have also bought and kept PENTAX CAMERAS in various series but prefer Olympus due to better features and ease to use them. I am only an amateur and have taken family snaps all the way like my parents and going to my granddad. Earlier to Japanese cameras, were Kodak and Agfa cameras and also Rolliflex. Digital cameras have certainly revolutionised the way photographs are taken. Earlier cameras did not have light meters and an external meter was used and flashbulbs were expensive and popped every time a photo was taken and needed a heavy external battery. These are good memories. Now one can view everything immediately and do not have to wait for developing and printing. The storage media has also changed from films to micro cards and flash cards.Hope this is shared by others.Read full review...

Olympus 410

After having done my homework on which camera I wanted, it was either the olympus 410, 510 or Canon eos400d, I looked around for the best priced one. After looking on many websites and shops I saw this one on ebay, decided the maximum price I wanted to pay and bought it from ebay.
The camera was able to take photos in both jpeg and RAW, which is one of the features I wanted, and it also had 2 lenses. I haven't found ways to link up remote flash to the camera but the features, and the very light weight, outweigh these disadvantages. It was great value for money.

A really wonderful small DSLR

I've been wanting a proper camera for a while. I've had a few Olympus compact cameras, which are fine but just don't have the quality of my old SLR which was heavy and had all the trouble with getting films developed.
I spent ages deciding what make and model to go for and reading reviews (there is just so much choice). Eventually I went with the Olympus E-410 because of several advantages. Firstly size, it is much smaller and lighter than any of the other cameras. Secondly, it has a live view option which having gotten used to it on compacts has it's uses. Thirdly price, the E-410 was available for a very good reduced price NEW on ebay, if you're prepared to have a refurb you can get it even cheaper! Fourth, there are plenty of accessories for it and fifth, I was familiar with the Olmpus menu system and find it very easy to use.
I have not been disapointed with the camera in any way, the only thing it doesn't have is image stabalisation, which I've never had anyway so I don't miss it.
This camera should last me for years, the pictures I've taken with it so far are outstanding.

Great budget DSLR

This is a great little camera for the money. It's small and really fits well in your hand. It's easy to use: all the functionality was easy to master, the menus are very straight forward. For the price it's wonderful. I always wonder why the Nikon D40 seems to sell for more than the E410 or E420 on Ebay, and now that I have the E410 I'm still wondering. You get a better 10 megapixel sensor, ultrasonic sensor cleaner and a smaller camera. There are downsides: it's a budget camera after all. The standard 14-42mm lens is very slow, displays barrel distortion at the wide angle end, and there's noticeable chromatic aberration. The high ISO end is a little disappointing too. Turn off the noise filter, and you really get to see that the sensor is performing at it's absolute limit. But, at the end of the day, what more to expect? If you want to pay far more for a Canon 450D or a Lumix G1, then you'll undoubtedly get a better picture. But if you want a superb little camera and an absolute bargain, I'd definitely go for the Olympus E410 or E420.Read full review...
