This lens or its rival, the Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8, is a must have for m43 shooters

Just make sure your camera body has in-body stabilization as the lens itself does not have stabilization. The focal length is wide enough at 12mm to shoot landscape photos. At the narrow end, 30 to 40mm will shoot great portrait shots only beaten out by a faster prime lens. The speed f/2.8 is fast enough to get most of the needs done. At low light, you'll need to pump up your ISO though to compensate. Read full review...

Not as sharp as my old 4/3 14-54

I guess I must've got a bad or damaged copy, but this 12-40 just doesn't cut it. It's simply not as sharp at any aperture as my old 4/3s 14-54 II; I acknowledge that I probably have an exceptionally good copy of that lens, and a very poor copy of this one. However, lens variation has always been a thing photographers have had to deal with. It's a shame, as the fit and finish on this lens is spectacular; the body feels refined and looks amazing paired with my E-M1 II. The manual focus clutch is a lovely little addition.

Autofocus speed is faster than my 14-54, but not by much. I don't shoot action/sports; so C-AF and S-AF performance are functionally identical across these two lenses for me. Video autofocus with the 12-40 is fantastic with the latest firmware update for the E-M1 II.

Good pro

Very sharp, reasonably fast, can get decent bokeh. Like how it handles and manual focus clutch. Splash proof perfect / necessary for Scotish & English weather. LFn button useful with standard function AEL/AFL but is a bit hard to find. This and all Pro lenses feel Big & Heavy (and expensive) when compared to "usual" m4/3 25mm, 45mm or even 14-150 and 75-300. Changing between 12-40 Pro and 40-150 Pro needs careful handling. But if you want/need Pro performance and characteristics you pay for these and manage the size and weight. It is just that this is no longer a small, cute, high performance, low cost m4/3 lense :) Clearly meant for enthusiasts and professionals, but entry level amateurs should consider their expectations carefully. Side note: I fit 12-40 Pro, 40-150 Pro, 75-300 and one or max two smaller lenses in a Hadley Pro.Read full review...

Super sharp Olympus 12-40mm pro lens,

I replaced two Olympus prime lenses with this 12-40mm pro, I was a little reticent, as the image quality of the 17mm and 45 prime it was going to replace, was excellent. I need not have been concerned, this 12-40 mm pro lens is truly exceptional, it is so sharp and exceptionally fast to focus that I can't stop using it. I have used some very expensive lenses prior to changing to the Olympus micro four thirds system, but I have never produced images of this clarity before. If you have a passion for quality photography and own an OMD, this lens will blow your mind, and anyone who looks at your pictures will also be very impressed. At the purchase price from e-global via ebay, it is the best buy I have ever made. Read full review...

Olympus 12-40mm f/2.8 Pro Lens

The Olympus 12-40mm f/2.8 pro Lens. Build quality is fantastic. The focus ring glides beautifully and I like the snap on & off for the focus ring. The zoom ring moves nicely. I am early days using this lens. But so far not disappointed with the Olympus lens. Read full review...

Very good lens (according to reviews) with some weirdness on a GX85 body

Not sure why but sometimes is acts a little strange on the GX85 body like, not focusing correctly. A quick camera restart and it's working again, but a little frustrating. IQ is really nice though :)

Best M4/3 lens

I’m was confused about Olympus versus Panasonic lenses. But... this 12-40mm f2.8 PRO is just Amazing. The lens body is like a rock, with fine detail and robust shape, looks like nothing can happen to that piece of glass. Image is clear, sharp and the focus is just spot on. Definitely no way to go for a Panasonic lens. The focus ring it can be set for manual focus and this is a big step for Olympus as a great engineering development. I know it doesn’t have IS but you can use your camera IBIS. I paired this lens with Panasonic G9 and the things can’t go better than that. If you are struggling to find a good zoom lens, don’t hesitate to grab this Olympus 12-40mm PRO. Good luck!Read full review...

Great Pro lens

I also have a Canon 24-70 f2.8 L lens for my full frame camera but looking at the images produced by both side by side in LR I can't see any difference. This lens is super sharp, weather sealed and beautifully made - I can't fault it. I got a fantastic bargain considering I paid the same for brand new as used versions are sold here in the UK.Read full review...

12-40mm Olympus f/2.8 Pro - not too shabby...

Having recently switched from Canon L series to the smaller, lighter, 4/3rds on a GH5 - you expect to lose a little of that lush depth of field imagery, but with the constant aperture at 2.8 and an actually quite 'useful' zoom range (what is in effect 24 to 80mm on a full frame), this little, but reassuringly heavy lens performs small wonders. Love it! I'm also lucky enough to have the 12-100mm constant f4 Olympus which has its own place, but for gaining a little more light all round in those darker places, grab yourself one of these - you can't go wrong!Read full review...

Real class in a superb range of 3 - 4 Olympus Pro Zooms

This is just amazing compared with the usual kit lens. This is one you can glue on to the camera and forget.

It is reasonably tough but that is not what you are looking for in something you will look after.

Very sharp indeed.

Expensive new but a good / excellent deal used.

OMG!

This is one lens that definitely lives up to the rave reviews. Super sharp and detailed images. It is a bit big and heavy compared to other lenses, but it's a worthwhile trade off. How sharp is it- my Panasonic Leica 25mm f1.4 is now redundant. A major plus is the ability to grab the focus ring and instantly switch to manual focus.Read full review...
