Olympus VN 7800

I bought this as it has a loop function. This would be great for making notes on recordings.
It is easy to use. The only improvement would be a mains facility, but it does last a very long time on the batteries.
I bought it to help in teaching my parrot to talk. The clarity of the playback is excellent and the loop playback means I can record a short phrase and put it on to playback.
This was the same price as a very plasticky looking parrot one and much better quality.Read full review...

What's not to like?

Very high sound quality when used at its top setting, good enough even for music. Also its three sensitivity settings, 'lecture', 'conference. and 'dictation' allow you to set the record level reasonably accurately and avoid the surges you get with automatic gain control. The dynamic range of the music is not lost. Considering how close together the two microphones are the stereo separation is also quite good.
