An appreciation of British Rail. All fresh, no stale pork pies here.

One of a series of DVDs produced from rescued British Transport Film unit productions. "Snowdrift at Bleath Ghyll" is, in my opinion, the best produced documentary account of a railway "rescue" operation under attrocious conditions. I would recommend this DVD to any teacher of industrial history for viewing by Secondary School pupils. The commentary is excellent and the phrases used although dated are evocative of the situation. Used as advertising and education, in their day these productions were an important window on industry and it's development. Although I am not a rail enthusiasi I find the content riveting and the DVD is rarely in it's box for more than a week without being watched.Read full review...

Old style documentaries with excellent production values

A great collection of the best British Transport films about railways, both in the steam and diesel ages, and about both transport and leisure. Good quality picture and sound. A glimpse into the past!

Great collection of Transport Films

This is a great collection of transport films, rekindling an age all too recently lost. I particularly loved 'Under the River' which has superb footage of the great Cornish pumping engines used to conquer the 'Great Spring' and drain the tunnel. Sadly the six cornish engines at Sudbrook were scrapped in an act of corporate vandalism in the 1970's so this film is a wonderful historic record of the engines in motion. Oh yes, there are some films about trains too... Sir John Betjeman's journey on a DMU from Kings Lynn to Hunstanton is particularly evocative of the train journeys of my childhood, being a Norfolkman myself.
Overall - a grand slice of nostalgia and highly recommended.
