A good read
I belong to a book club and this was the book for this month's read. It is a short book and just 166 pages and has recently been made into a film. It was excellent value because it only cost me £1.94 including postage. I love buying my books from e-bay and such good value. The book itself is very different and I definitely enjoyed it. As for recommending it, well everyone has different tastes in literature but give it a go and nothing to lose.Read full review

Rubbish.
Sorry but I found this to be THE most boring book I have ever read. I would not recommend buying this! It did not hold my attention at all, and I couldn't care less about the two characters or what the outcome of their story was. Just glad I got it secondhand and cheap! It's now in the box to go to charity although perhaps it might have been better put to use as a firelighter.Read full review

Title is good enough but could have been better
Ian McEwan is now considered to be a great
writer when he's only average. His writing has
faults. His choice of words is not good
at times. The story is poignant and heartbreaking.
It's difficult to get this sort of subject matter 'right'
McEwen has done a reasonably good job,but
it needed a better touch at times.

Not my cup of tea
Book was in great condition & good value but I found the content to be a bit dull & not as exciting as I anticipated. Off to the charity shop it goes to someone who may appreciate it more than I did. Not my cup of tea.Read full review

Good read
Interesting story, surprised to find out that it has a different ending to the film, it is well written
and keeps you absorbed to the end. Shows how attitudes have changed since the early 1960s.

Grief and youth
This novella describes the pain of emerging adulthood against a backdrop of mid twentieth century repression. The opposing social classes of the two protagonists gives a sense of doom to the lovers plight. The distance between them becomes insurmountable. Read full review
