Well..it got my Smart Coupe going again! This little box sits in a well in the carpet and insulation under the handbrake on the coupe. Symptoms...progressive and initially random fail of tailgate opening then doors then immobiliser...changed key battery..no different. The web suggested to change this component...seats out, fiddle console out...minor carpet surgery, install gizmo and out again.
