Wooden Swing Hammock

This item arrived in two boxes with decent and straight forward instructions to assemble but took me a few hours to do but I was very pleased with the result. I would advise to not over tighten the nuts and bolts as it may split the wood. Pleased with the assembled hammock which looked identical to the photo but I did need to buy a cover for the U.K. weather so a rain cover to protect this item would be recommended.Read full review...

Poor materials, design and finish

Rather disappointing in the light of so many positive reviews. Nothing wrong from the seller's point of view but the timber is low quality, had a number of significant splits and has since split in more places - not due to overtightening. These splits create the risk of nasty splinters and are worringly close to stress points. It is poorly vanished, with quite number of either missed bits that will need treating or holes drilled through the varnish. Because the wood is so soft, fastening into the end of pieces is going to be problematic if any strain is put on the joins.
The design is poor since the swing fouls on the rear braces unless the seat is set unreasonably high off the ground. Getting the chains right took a lot of time and effort and leaves lots of surplus links. I don't expect this to last very long without significant work on it.
I cannot recommend this.

Great value

To be honest, for the price, this was much better than I expected.

A bit awkward to assemble, the instructions are not great. The chains were difficult to set to the correct lengths to get the seat at the right angle to sit on.

But overall, very happy with it…

OK swing chair, abysmal instruction, hopefully will last

Couple of hints on the assembly before I write my review as the instruction is so poor:

* Open box and spread each parts and organise the nuts and bolts into groups, so you know exactly which piece of the wood fits with the right nuts and bolts. The pictures in the instruction manual is useless.
* DO NOT tighten the screws until you have the essential frame (i.e. the legs, the supporting beam, etc) assembled.
* Separate each pair of legs for the swing chair and note on the screw holes are facing the correct way. This is VERY important as you will find out in the review.

Review:

The whole swing chair arrives in 2 large boxes - 1 for the frame and the other for the swing chair. After inspecting the quality of the wood, it seems like it needed a bit of treatment as I would like this furniture to last for a few years, so I have bought wood preservative and painted a couple of layers of varnish.

The instruction manual is probably the worst I have ever encountered, it's literally 2 double sided pages for such a reasonable construction. I have assembled a lot of home furniture in the past and not afraid to tackle the difficult ones. However, I had to disassemble the chair twice having gone so far and realise the screw holes are in the wrong places (I took great time in placing each parts in the right place before the assembly). If you have built Ikea furniture before, they have one of the best instruction around which highlight areas that you need to pay attention to avoid later mistakes.

Also, the instruction stated that there should be 3 pieces of wood to screw beneath the swing chair, but there were only 2, so I spent around 10 minutes trying to look for the missing piece until I have examined the screw holes in the swing chair, that there are only 2 available, so the manual is incorrect.

I doubt the hood will stand a chance in the strong wind, and probably get ripped off in a storm as it is literally held by 2 long screws threaded through a flimsey metal pole that holds the hood on either side of the frame. I have bought a large chair cover hopefully to help to keep the hood in place during windy weather and to keep the chair dry.

What I like?
* Able to convert to a bed/chair,
* Wood seems reasonably strong, but I would definitely treat the wood to make it last long.

What I don't like?
* Poor instruction manual
* Precision on certain parts does not seem to fit well. There should be at least a small gap between the chair/bed and the arm, as everytime you convert between the bed/chair, it scratches against the arms.

What's it like once assembled?? It's quite nice, but I wouldn't pay the full RRP (£579??), so for £279 is OK.
Overall, it's not bad, just hope it lasts for a few years.

Disappointing Product

The pictures looked good and the price seemed sensible. However, there are some flaws. Firstly, the actual product is not of the standard expected at this price - the carpentry is poor and the finish barely acceptable. The finish on some parts is decidedly shabby and looks to have been rushed in production. Secondly, the assembly instructions are poor and there is considerable room for error. Some parts are incorrectly labelled. Assembly is not a simple task and is quite time consuming.
I have rated it with 3 stars, which is perhaps slightly generous.
