Best general walk around lens for MFT cameras
The Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 is a great general purpose, walk around lens to have on your micro four thirds camera. It's 40mm equivalent field of view to a full frame sensor makes it the perfect sweet spot between a 35mm and a standard 50mm, while the fast 1.7 aperture allows for faster shutter speeds in low light conditions, and offers a nice bokeh. Being a pancake lens design, it barely adds any length to the Cabrera body making it ideal to keep in your pocket or purse, or for discreet use in street photography.
All in all, it's an excellent lens that produces sharp images and offers a great value, rivalled only by the 25mm f/1.7, which adds almost double the barrel length to the lens. If you're looking for a good, all day, walk around lens sand do not need the ability to zoom in to your subjects, this is an ideal lens to consider.Read full review

Oh for still pictures, not for video
This is a nice compact fast lens in the normal range for viewing angle. As such it is very useful, and worth keeping permanently mounted, on a smaller camera body. It's probably the fastest MFT lens out there for under $200.
The disadvantages? Loud, when focusing. Sounds like a copy machine or scanner, and takes about as long. So, it's no good for video unless you have external sound recording.Read full review

A unique lens for lightweight camera gear
Its image quality is stellar, it’s sharp even wide open, a top-notch optical instrument for environmental portraits and decent for street photography (It’s no speed demon but it is perfectly acceptable}. It performs very well in low light conditions and with the 3/4 format it gives you the freedom of light camera gear even for assignment work on the street. This is a lens that can make all of the difference in the world. I combine it with the 14mm, also a great lens The Panasonic Lumix 20mm might not be the new uprising in the camera world, but its a great lens at a reasonable price.Read full review

Image quality, versatily in a small factor
Moving from an EOS system, this replaced the 24mm STM, so it is my most direct comparison
I like the field of view, slightly more narrow, feels more natural for some reason. Full aperture kinda gives the same dof and of course you can use a faster shutter speed. Good sharpness
The rumors are true, it is indeed "slow" with focusing, particularly in low light. But it's nothing particularly bothersome, I can live with it.
Also using it in an olympus system and haven't experienced the infamous banding problem.Read full review

a rare bargain
This is an amazing lens at this price point. I would expect a lens of this quality to cost more.
Images are sharp. Color is very good. Size of the lens is outstanding. I use it on an GX7 and it makes for a small, fast, optically excellent camera that can go anywhere.Read full review

Great lens!
This is a great lens. It works well with my Panasonic M43 cameras: G6, G7 and GH5s. The lens has manual and auto-focus that works great. Low light performance is great. This lens will be used in low light, as well as other conditions. I like to use auto-focus once at the start and then begin video recording. Read full review

Best m/43 lens
Best carry around lens for micro 4/3 cameras. Tiny, sharp, and a f/1.7 aperture. Carry a camera like the Lumix GF1 ($100 for an excellent used one) with this lens in your pocket and you may not need anything else.Read full review

Small and Sharp.
I own a Sigma 16mm f1.4 lens and love it. However, it is big and perhaps just a tad too wide. I love the perspective of a 35mm (full frame) lens and wanted to put together a compact camera for travel and fine art and this pancake lens fits the bill. Quite small, sharp and affordable used, this lens meets my requirements for what I want.Read full review

Great lens, great price!
This is a compact and very sharp lens. It is a great value for those who enjoy having a lens with "normal" perspective. As the 35mm equivalent focal length is 40mm, this lens can serve as a real everyday workhorse. For travel, a few steps forward or back can make it perform as a 35mm or 50mm lens equivalent. I am really liking the one I bought off ebay and appreciate the good deal I got also.Read full review

Mostly Good
Reasonably sharp, fast lens. Good for street photography - not so "in your face" as a large chunk of glass. Very good for low light/night photography. Only issue is a lot of chromatic aberration in strong sunlight, but this is easily fixed in post production. Also allows my E-M5 to fit in a jacket pocket great for when you don't want something swinging around your neck. A handy and useful addition to the camera bag.Read full review

Sharp lens but noisy and slow to focus
The lens lets in a good amount of light, is sharp and is quite compact. Downsides are A/F speed and noise. It is not much better than the kit lens for most Panasonics.
