Panasonic LUMIX DMC-LX5 10.1MP Digital Camera - Black

Quite old now but a good compact enthusiast camera

The LX5 is a couple of generations behind the current model, but it's a good camera nevertheless that produces sharp images with good colour rendition and control of aberrations. The very sharp lens is equivalent to 24-90mm in 35mm, which is a very useful range without sacrificing image quality too much. There are plenty of control options (my main camera is a DSLR) including a macro facility and (slightly clunky) manual focus, with the option of a manual viewfinder that can be bought separately. The sensor is small compared with most modern enthusiast compacts (and some phones) but still produces a good image; I've had one enlarged to 12x18" and I'm pleased with the results. Decent camera

The LX 5 does a decent enough job. The controls are well laid out and easy to manage. But, if you want something a bit better, the Sony RX100 and RX100ll are on a totally different level

My second LX5

I purchased an LX5 when they first came on to the market, used constantly, fantastic battery life, brilliant wide angle lens.
I replaced it with a Sony RX100 V but soon regretted my choice as the Sony was a rather mixed bag making basic photography compared to the LX5 a rather tedious process.
So I have now purchased another Panasonic LX5 and I’m a happy snapper again.Read full review
