Tough, quality item

Screwed in very easily. Initially I used a thin metal tube I had to check it was not going to meet any stone obstructions - a good idea I think as my first 4 probes were not good for the spike to gave to follow. The spike is tough and of high quality. I made sure it was in straight and it easily holds my huge parasol without any strain. I would have liked some kind of brightly coloured plug to place in the top when parasol taken out for winter to keep water out and to name it easy to see and not trip over. This is not a complaint as it was clear this did not firm part of the purchase - it is just an added value suggestion. I have decided to use a garden ornament. Thank you for a very decent product!Read full review...

Garden spike, lightweight application only!

I bought these (2) budget priced spikes to enable me to mount a rather heavy rotary clothes line(with washing on!) in my garden lawn.I had one before, at twice the cost, but after 2 years it rusted away, so bought these.
I was surprised at the lightweight construction, but I tried screwing one into my rather heavy soil.after the screw thread went in, the upper cup was turning ok, but the spike was not drilling in, so pulled it out and realised thar the skinny ring of weld between the cup body and screw thread had broken.as an engineer, I could see that the weld was too weak for the stress imposed on it by the screwing in torque required.a decent priced product let down by weak design welding.i will request a full refund on return!

Very Handy Product

Easy to use and once in place holds umbrella’s or swingball well. Havent tried a washing attachment but if screwed into the ground enough, im sure it would be fine. It can churn up quite a bit of soil but its a neat hole easily filled. Happy with product and would recommend.Read full review...

Not sufficiently adjustable

Once a standard quality rotary washing line is inserted, fully tightening the screws is not enough to bring the metal plates into firm contact with the line pole. You need to find something to use as a collar to thicken the inserted post. It's stupid, because if the three screws were longer, this problem would not exist. the item itself is very solid and heavy, although an opening at the bottom for slow drainage would be useful. It's basically too big for what I would consider normal use. The washing line that would fit this would be bigger than anything I've ever seen. Will persevere in trying to find something to pack it out, but meanwhile, guys, just supply longer adjustment screws then you'll have a great product.Read full review...

Great simple item!

Ordered this item as we needed a base for our large parasol, our garden is uneven and has some steep slopes which would make a traditional parasol base useless. This item simply screwed into the grass and held the parasol in place despite some gentle winds, which was exactly what we wanted! For the price you can’t go wrong!Read full review...

Needs a slight re-design to make it really useful

Two issues with quality/design. The first is that the nuts welded onto the body need more careful fitting. I had to re-thread two of them with an M8 tap in order to allow the holding bolts to screw in easily.
The second is with the helical strip welded to the spike. The very bottom of this needs to be cut off so that there is no weak part to it extending past the bottom weld, otherwise any obstruction in the ground tends to bend the strip and prevent it biting into the soil properly.

Having said that, the unit is a suitable size and is robust. Not yet tested with my sun shade due to awful summer weather.

Problem solved

This garden spike seems to be ideal for our garden the problem we had was our grass area has only 5 -6 inches of soil the base is shale so I've used my power drill with a 30 inch masonry drill to make the initial hole and then follow up with the spikeRead full review...

Did not disappoint

The build quality is great, it's really solid and screws into the ground with ease. The adjustable screws with metal spring pads for closing in on the inserted pole are a little fiddly. I would advise inserting the pole first and adding each spring pad one by one.
I'm very happy with this product. It's so much easier than messing around with cement!

Strong and sturdy

This was easy to screw into the ground and more importantly even I got it straight.
Its very strong and even in strong winds doesn't move.
The only tip is you need a washing line pole with a big diameter otherwise it may
wobble.
