Well designed, value for money

We decided that we needed one to prevent intimidation of one of our four cats ('E') by a neighbouring cat. We picked a Staywell product as we have always installed their normal flaps. We were disappointed that the opening required enlarging but this is necessary for the clearance for the cable to pass though. We got a little confused by the instructions but the help desk was readily available and very helpful and knowledgeable each time we telephoned them! The mechanism appears flimsy but when there was a fight, E fled for safety and the mechanism had dropped. Fearing it was broken we contacted the helpdesk who advised that the catch will have become detached and immediately emailed a photograph of the mechanism internally (behind the fascia) so we could identify which parts required fitting together. Brilliant design in our opinion to have a mechanism which gives way rather than breaking when forced! Our two geriatric cats and young one had absolutely no problem adapting to it but our middle aged cat won't use - we think it is the bleep which worries him (I believe that the bleep can be turned off but need to contact the helpdesk again!). One additional point is that when you fit the back-up battery when installing, the unit defaults to battery mode and in this mode it won't scan. You will have programmed your cat's chip to it prior to installing so don't be concerned that the programming hasn't worked! You need to change the system back to mains mode by pressing the green button for 30secs until it continuously bleeps. Clever, smart technology - would definitely recommend.Read full review...

Reliable and trouble free.

We now have two of the same flaps. 4 cats in and out all day, no problems, completely reliable. Old flap now over 5 years old and still going strong.
