This Philips DVD player is an excellent all rounder but it's best suited to a Standard Definition television screen. When I tried using it to play DVD's on a HDTV, there was a 'ghosting' effect - I tried changing the picture settings for the television to reduce it, but it was still quite noticeable. Strangely, I tried another identical Philips DVD player model on the HDTV, and there wasn't any 'ghosting' issue, it was fine.
I also like that there's a digital display window on the front, something which seems to be going out of fashion with manufacturers of recent DVD/Blu-ray players often opting not to include them.Read full review...

Bought two. One is fine (so far). One lasted two weeks.

Very simple unit. Works fine when working. The first one came as a refurbished unit and lasted two weeks. I will send the name of seller if asked. We are still negotiating a replacement. The other player had to be hacked to make it all region - this is very easy to do. So far this one, the second player, is working well.
