General overview from a fan of the series

*This review refers to the overall series, and it does not spoil any plot points of any of the games.*

I LOVE this game! Phoenix (the main character) and his various comrades are a really likable cast of characters, and as the stories unfold throughout each game their personalities really get a chance to develop. Even your rivals, the prosecutors, have their own stories to share, and each 'backstory' ties in with a different case. I think my favorite character of the series is actually NOT Phoenix (although his snarky sense of humor cracks me up), but instead the hapless detective Gumshoe who appears throughout the series. (As his name suggests, you can never quite get rid of him.)

As for the gameplay itself, it really kept me on my toes. I never knew how each case was going to turn out until I was finished. The game is challenging and forces you to make many deductive leaps in logic to connect a contradictory "clue" to a piece of testimony. I really appreciated the essentially constant save feature as well, how you can pretty much save your progress at any given spot in the dialogue by pressing START.

My only complaint is the slow text speed. One feature of the game is that when you play through a second time you can fast-forward through most of the text. Since I am a fast reader, I really wish they'd made it available from the first play-through as well.

Would I recommend this game? Absolutely. For a fan of courtroom dialogue and detective work, witty sarcasm and just plain BAD puns (a prosecutor named Winston Payne, for example), I guarantee that you'll fall in love. One final warning: make sure you have plenty of cash on hand. Buy the whole series at once, because you'll be addicted for sure.

The best game in the series, with surprises throughout!

First and foremost, this is a review of the Japanese version (which has English language option) though the only difference is the 1% of typos that will be fixed in the USA release.

If you haven't heard of Phoenix Wright before, steer clear of this game, because it's the 3rd (and last) in the series; you should play the 1st and 2nd games before playing this one.

This game feels and plays just like the first two, so if you're expecting some radical changes to the gameplay, you'll be disappointed. Fortunately, the cases are all extremely well done, and you get to play as some other characters, which is very cool. The music has been partly redone by a different composer, and is great. The best part is the story, which goes to the past and future, and reveals more characters and mysteries. Since this is the final game in the series (for Phoenix anyway), everything will be revealed by the end.

Summary:
Graphics --- C (the character designs are great, some very creepy, but in the end, it's all 2D sprites)
Sound --- B+ (the music is great, and hearing "Objection!" is still exciting)
Story --- A (very thrilling cases, it's amazing how much is revealed in the 5th case)
Replay Value --- C (once you've played it once, it's hard to play again since you already know everything)
Overall Score --- A- (9/10)

Phoenix Wright: Trials & Tribulations is the perfect ending to the Phoenix Wright part of this series (the series continues with a different attorney). If you have played the first two games, you must play this game because the story is terrific!

Best of the original AA trilogy

I bought this game because I'd already bought and played the previous two titles and had a blast with it. This one was even more fun than the other two, and out of the three main "Ace Attorney" titles (not including Apollo Justice), this one is, by far, the most fun and amazing one to me. A lot of people think the games have little to no replay value because it is too "linear", but personally, I think they have a lot of replay value, although you may have to wait a while in between playing the games. It's a treat seeing how the characters act in each situation (especially Phoenix) and the soundtrack is phenomenal. I think the only downsides to the game is the "linear" part, since it's not flexible for multiple endings or something like that; and it can get kind of boring just tapping the stylus on the arrow button on the bottom for most of the game. Aside from that, it's a lot of fun to play and very highly recommended for old and new Ace Attorney fans.Read full review...

Amazing game! The story will leave you speechless!

I bought this product to complete the first Ace Attorney trilogy which includes Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Ace Attorney: Justice For All, and finally Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations. This game is a fan favorite and exciting conclusion to an epic trilogy. I would recommend this to any fan, but I would also suggest this be the last of the Ace Attorney series they play as the series falls apart with a shoddy sequel Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney which is such a failure of a game and a huge disappointment, and let down.

True fans however will be happy to know that the Ace Attorney Investigations series starring fan favorite, Miles Edgeworth is great spin off, and means it isn't the utter end of a great series. I would get that if you enjoyed the first three games. Do enjoy! And I caution you to stay away from Apollo Justice unless you want complete disappointment. It is garbage.

Ends the Trilogy In an Amazing Way

Wow I'm a little sad that its all over and done but it was amazing. From start to finish I can promise you it has been the best Phoenix Wright game. All the cast is so lovable and the cases are really complex and fun to play. You will be blown away from this game and its many cases to solve. I don't want to get into to many details because its the last game and you really have to play it to be blown away. The good news is that although this series comes to an end we still have Apollo Justice to look foward to. It will be from the same series but with a new defense lawyer. Looking foward to it.Read full review...

Great Idea - Fairly Disappointing Execution

The idea behind the game itself is great. In theory, it sounds like you'd be able to play for hours and not get bored with this. Unfortunately the redundancy of the presentation was not to my liking. The game is mildly interactive, but you are constantly doing the same actions over and over. I am a big fan of games like "Trace Memory", and "Hotel Dusk". When I got this game, I expected similar game play, but was slightly disappointed.
Generally, though, it is a good game. I do enjoy it in small doses.
