real world power

This 60a mppt charge controller is a great alternative to the outback and midnight charge controllers 1 is price this mppt is only £90, where as a midnight classic will set you back £650. the powmr 60a ppt, can compete easily with anything out there today.

1
cooling this unit has a active cooling using a fan that comes on at 40c and goes off at 30c or around that temperature. the fan sucks hot air out from the bottom through the top, there are videos saying to reverse the fan so it sucks air in. this is incorrect as heat rises, and the idea of the fins on the side are to let cold air in to cool the mppt. there are also people saying that the fan burns out to fast. I have 4 of these units at 24v 1320w for 4 years and have had no problems thus far. its reliable and well built. I keep my units cool via mounting them on blocks allowing them to have air flow behind them.

2
build quality is good its heavy! it has a good heat sink on the back if mounted correctly cooling is not a real issue however it is a fan and fans fail at some point! so its best to keep an eye on it. it has 2 + and 2 - for the battery and the same for the solar inputs
some say the connectors are to small but its efficient and in this world of saving materials it does make sense the 2 - and 2 + are for higher loads so, 4 200w solar panels wired in series which equals to 2 + and 2 - then has to be wired in parallel before it gets to the mppt input. this, balances the load to the unit. you cannot wire a 600w un balanced load
to it e.g 200w on one leg and 400w on the other this imbalance with cause a short inside and could catch fire don't do that!

3
interface
this ppt has a good clear interface on it allowing you to set various settings like voltage cut off bulk and float charge. the powmr however has to be turned off to apply the settings you want so in order to do that, turn off the solar and then the controller, wait for 5 seconds and turn the mppt back on again. for me, this sometimes takes 2 power offs to get it to apply the settings.

fake vs real

this powmr is known to be a fake make sky blue. this may be so, but even though the powmr has v113 firmware and the make sky blue has v117 or v118 with wifi the powmr tracks well within 0.5 seconds or less. it does however need to update for voltage recognition. the powmr on a 24v battery only shows up as 12v. you have to double the reading for your set voltage. the make sky blue however reads the 12v as 12v and 24v as 24v. plus you do not need to turn the make sky blue off to apply its settings it can do that on command entry. the make sky blue also has the feature to allow offsetting the battery voltage to get the right reading of the battery. the powmr does not have this feature, this can be fixed in the powmr with setting the voltage of charge to lets say on a 24v battery to get 29.6 you would need to set the controller cut off voltage to 15.2. the powmr shunt is also a little off when it comes to accuracy reading 40a but in reality its 35a. however im in the uk and getting the make sky blue is hard because you have to order it from china or America. I bought the powmr because its in the uk if I had ordered a make sky blue from America and it was DOA on arrival I would have to send it back having to pay import duties and postage which, was not logical to me.

my powmr is connected to a 1320w array in the uk I read on a cloudy day around 400w of power when there is sun I get 1350w peek performance utilising all the panels connected. I hope this helps someone all the best.

Works well for the price

I now have two of these controllers one running a 48v system and one a 12. I found that keeping the input voltage as close to the specified maximum is imperative if you want the most effective results. I run the 48v at around 140 open circuit with four panels in series. From previous reviews that I have studied I noticed that there was some concern with the cooling fan being unreliable, I have an extra cooling fan in my enclosure and I have not noticed the integral fan being overworked, so far so good.Read full review

Works great, as advertised

I connected this up per the included English user manual, and bingo, it simply worked. I changed one setting for my battery type and it’s been working away for two days now feeding my 48v battery bank. I’m not putting 60 Amps through it, only ten, but when it gets warm the fan kicks in. These have been warm days. The unit cools down quite quickly with the fan on and it is a little noisy, you wouldn’t want it in your lounge for example, mine is in the barn so no problems. I like that it has double battery and PV connectors giving flexibility.Read full review

Something more to be complete

Very easy set up, I think that could be coming to conect the turbine set as well and 5V outputs to be more complete.

60A MPPT controller

This is a good controller noticed about 25% extra from solar panels
Cable terminals should be bigger but there is two for each connection so I just doubled two thinner cables instead of one thicker cable Read full review
