RHCP - Dave Navarro joins for 'One Hot Minute'

Following the success of 'Blood Sugar Sex Magic' John Frusciante left the Red Hot Chili Peppers mid-tour.

In came Dave 'Jane's Addiction' Navarro. This album would be the only RHCP album to feature Navarro and - for that time at least - the Chili's music dramatically altered. Less sexual innuendo, more deep lyrics. Drug abuse. Depression. Personal grief. 'One Hot Minute' is one dark album. With Frusciante a recluse, uncomfortable with their newfound fame, and a radical change in the direction of the music, the latest RHCP was far from a commercial success. It did, however, produced three hit singles.

Kiedis got real personal on this album, his lyrics dark and melancholy. There are more 'heavy metal' riffs on 'One Hot Minute' and there is even a hint of psychedelic rock. But, although it is not Navarro's normal style, there is still enough of the RHCP signature sound - Funk Rock - so that it is clearly an RHCP album. Critically it was not recieved very well, but it certainly shows a more mature Kiedis as songwriter, dealing with issues of drug addiction and loss.

'Aeroplane' is probably the closest to the 'Blood Sugar ...' Chili Peppers, being significantly more fun and upbeat than the rest of the album. 'Warped' deals with issues of drug addiction. 'Tearjerker' is a tribute to the late Kurt Cobain of Nirvana. 'Deep Kick' tells of the childhood and youthful days of Flea and Kiedis. In all, a very personal album and one of my personal favourites.

More Funky then Californication...

In my Opinion the CD ( One Hot Minute ) was not as good as their previous CD but better then the one that followed for sure... There are some highlights that stand out on this CD so here's what me and the people that I've talked to over the years have liked the best... Song #2 Aeroplane is very funky & cool... Song #4 My friends is worth mentioning, plus the video was alright... Song #6 Pea is by far the most requested Red Hot Chili Peppers song that came out of my home music system right next to Under the Bridge.. Song #8 Walkabout is underrated and one of my top 10 Peppers tunes... With the rest of the CD standing out as a well rounded CD that you should own if you are a Chili Peppers fan at all...Read full review...

Red Hot Chili Peppers- One Hot Minute

This is a good mix of songs with strange songs like Warped, Walkabout and One Big Mob to my personal favourites My Friends,Tearjerker and Pea the direction was slightly heavier and almost dark than previous albums with Dave Navarro replacing John Frusciante it's worth buying if you have just discovered The Chilis and are curious as to what else they have done outside their released songs.Read full review...

One Hot Minute

A supurb album by 'The Red Hot Chili Peppers' This collection is uniquely different to the other albums produced. I love this album because of its supurb lyrics and its funky base. There is a variation of different tempos and interesting themes to each song. With all due respect to the chillis it would be nice if someone else took the microphone for a change, there is only so much you can hear of one voice before it starts grating on you.Read full review...
