Plugged into camcorder

Like all lavs, a little bass-heavy, but crystal clear and very sensitive.

Overpriced but does a reasonable job

Way overpriced for what it is, marginally better sound than my iPhone 6 indoors, works better outdoors and using the cumbersome app which please please please make easier to use. If this was £25 I'd say yes go for it for outdoor use or anywhere using the app away from the camera device for sound quality and you don't mind editing the sound later into your video coverage. if you are blogging indoors on a top of line phone or camera don't bother the sound difference is negligible.Read full review

Smooth response, rugged design

I've been using inexpensive lavaliere microphones from eBay and been very satisfied, but I wanted a less intrusive mic for on-camera use. The Rode is excellent in this regard as, without its wind muff, it is very slim. Rode also make 'invisible' stickers for fixing to skin.

Having purchased the mic, I found the response to be much better than my cheap mike, having a very smooth sound, with more bass response. It was supplied with a foam wind muff, and a furry version too to reduce wind noise. I have bought a pale version of these from eBay to aid with unobtrusive mounting.

The cable seems very robust and is terminated in a tiny screw connecter that interfaces with the plug that fits your equipment. I've got both xlr and 3.5mm plugs. It's a bit of a 'faff' to change them, and the travelling case seems too small to allow either of the adapters to be fitted in-transit. However, they are reliable and secure when in use, which is vital. As an aside, a pale cable would be useful when attached to pale clothing. I'm surprised no-one has come up with a solution to this issue.

I use the mic with a Zoom H1 and my Sony EX1 pro camcorder. The sound is excellent with both. I've not used it directly with my Canon 600D DLSR but I'm sure it would work very well, having quite a high output signal. Since there is no battery for the mic, it needs to be used with equipment that supply phantom power through the cable.

I'm very pleased with my purchase. I would certainly buy another. In fact, I'm now considering the radio mic version of this, and will look into the rest of the Rode range.
