Rogue Lap Steeler
Great Bang for the Buck. I bought this for my students to play during practice and concerts. They LOVE it. Having owned and own currently professional pedal steels, I know quality from krud......this is closer to krud, but a great learning tool and fun/easy to play. I recently changed out the tuners for Klusons and put a heavier set of C6 pedal steel strings on it, bought a quality tone bar and it improved the playability. My students borrow it every week to hone their skills and just have fun. For $99 you could spend on the night out with the wife for dinner and a show.....get this! (I still take my wife out for dinner and a show anyway!)Read full review

Very fun
Not always thrilled with Rogue-had a guitar that had the headjoint snap off! This looks well-made, beautiful finish, fit and hardware are fine. Electronics work as expected, the pickup sounds a little "weak" but is OK. Tuners are holding tuning pretty well so far. Only thing I'm changing-heavier gauge strings as the stock set are a little too light gauge to my taste, but playable. The stand legs are adequate, a little on the flimsy side but for this price, overall a nice package, would buy another one. The carry case is more well-made than I thought it might be-good arrangement for stowing the legs and a cable/tuner. Overall having great fun with it-but then I do play several other string instruments-this completed my collection. Now onto learning the 2+ dozen tunings for this!!!! Well maybe not that many. I'm using standard Nashville major/minor tuning for now-and can be quickly changed-the tuners seem to have a good ratio for changing pitches fairly quickly. with light-gauge strings, A tunings seem to play a litle better, G tuning will need the heavier gauge. Great value
I am a guitar player who recently wanted to learn steel guitar. I bought this inexpensive instrument to see if my interest would hold. The Rogue seems to have decent intonation, strings, and sounds good through amp. I like that legs and case were included.I am enjoying playing this lap steel and would recommend, based on my experience.Read full review

Works well and a great intro to lap steel
I haven’t played it that much yet but I was surprised by how well it works out of the box. I already play slide in standard tuning and I have some reservations as to what this adds. I just use a slide for now. But I am able to slant more. That is, cover two different frets on different strings. It looks great, even the stock strings stay in tune ok and the sound is great.
I tuned it for c6 for now. It’s a brain tease for me to try and teach this old dog open tuning. But it’s great for trying a new sound or approach. I may return or sell it just because I have too much stuff and regular slide guitar may suffice.
For about $70 it works well and may inspire some new ideas. I have no idea how it will hold up and you may want to put new strings on. Very surprised a Rogue product worked well.Read full review

Low cost lap steel
A lot of fun for 80. with free shipping, includes a padded soft case and telescoping legs.
The instrument is playable as is, but I plan on doing some modifications.
Plan on getting some better strings, replacing the nut and bridge and also expanding the scale length. The tuners are not great but are ok for now. Overall I am happy with the purchase especially at the price. Read full review

Good piece of wood to start from
This is a great idea with the legs and the bag. For the price, it is a steal, but the slide guitar needs a lot of work to make usable. I just got mine back from our local luthier, who put on a "Real" nut and fixed the bridge so it would tune properly. I am now prepared to go on stage with it....LOL For a total of around $200, this turned out to be a really nice slide guitar!!!.Read full review

Nice lap steel, terrible legs.
The lap steel is very nice for the price. Changed the strings and seems to be holding tune very well. The legs for this thing are terrible. The part of the leg that has the threaded end to attach to the guitar is only press fit and comes loose with very little effort. I ended up welding the "threaded plug" to the actual leg pole. Very stable now.
All in all happy with it for the price.Read full review

Great lap steel for the money
Great lap steel for the price. Just a beginner but I’m able to play things I was hoping to. Reason I only gave it four stars is because the screws holding the leg bushings into the unit stripped out of their holes, simple fix I used longer stainless steel screws and the legs are very sturdy now. Nice Lap Steel to get your feet wet.
Pros: Nice starting Lap steel. Strings are thin enough to up tune to C6. Sounded good right out of the box although, after watching a few YouTube videos I have determined that two of the strings need the bridge raised so the bar (not included) touches all the strings when the bar is at the 20th fret (about). I like the fret markers which make it easy to determine where to move the slide to.
Cons: The area around the bridge is cramped. It would be nice to have the volume and tone controls about 2 inches further away from the strings to give the right hand more room. The legs tend to loosen up. I've already knocked it over once. Still, manageable. I've haven't tightened them too hard because I didn't want to break them right off the bat.
Open G tuning makes sense for the guitar player switching to lap steel. Read full review

BUY IT NOW
I'd give this 5 stars for value. Heck, it even comes with totally functional legs. 5 stars for ease of set-up. 5 stars for "better than expected" surprise factor and 5+ stars for fun. Pretty simple, this instrument is a shiny painted plank of wood with tuners, a pickup, tone and volume controls, metal pickguard, plastic fret board and legs. It's nothing fancy. It does makes sweet sounds. It really works. It works well. I suppose if you are striving for vintage tone, you might upgrade to a better instrument or modify the pickup on this one. I haven't noticed any one thing that would hold me back from learning with this instrument. It tunes up easily and stays in tune. Volume and tone pots work fine. If you have been thinking about learning to play pedal-less steel, wait no longer. Click Buy It Now and get on with it. For less than $100, this thing will arrive on your doorstep in a few days. You will be smiling. Read full review
