Wet/Dry Vac or Rugdoctor?

You can get away with a wet vac and a spray bottle for a few spots, but for this price the refurbished Rugdoctor was far easier and better to use. In my case I had a 13 yr old mattress to clean. It took me 7 times going over the whole mattress with litres and litres of diy shampoo and warm water before the water ran fairly clean, the filth was gone and the mattress looked brand new. The rugdoctors automatic spray nozzle with stiff brush head to agitate the fibres and powerful visible suction all in one movement was a real help but it still took a long time. At the end it left the mattress slightly damp but it dried out completely over a radiator within 3 hours. It would be pretty difficult to have done all that with a wet vac and a spray bottle. I then did the landing in about 30 mins. It had years of embedded dog urine and dirt. I was amazed at the result. If you have pets this is generally useful to have and very easy to use. The only drawback is the hose should be 2 foot longer, and you have to be careful the machine doesn't topple over. The refurbished machine I bought looked brand new and even came with a small sample bottle of Rugdoctor carpet shampoo to make 4 litres which had been opened but barely used. This is a great deal and a useful machine. Read full review...

Beware! Only a 3 month warranty.

I paid £50 less for a refurbished cleaner, it's not bad but found its not anything special to warm water in a spray bottle and a 1400w wet and dry vacuum (which is more versatile).

The most irritating part was finding out that being "refurbished" it only has a 3 month warranty! Surely, if it was a good functioning unit, it would come with the standard warranty?!Read full review...

Very happy

Had my eye on one of these for a while. When I saw a refurbished one for half the price I had to go for it. So glad I did, it looks brand new to me, and works perfectly. Results are just as good as the big rug doctor that I have rented in the past, obviously will just take longer, but so handy that I can use it in the car too. Read full review...

Great for smaller rugs, and furniture. Easy to use.

Works brilliant on my 6 month old carpets nylon that had some stains. I went over the spots with the spray, then a few times with the brush and a few times with the suction, and they were gone. I managed to do 3 room carpets about 5' by 4' in under a hour. Because I read the instructions and didnt over spray, they were dry later that day. The machine itself is not too heavy. They only thing is the water containers could do with being flat at the top, so they have somewhere to sit when filling. I know they did it for the sleek design, but it is a pain if you trying to fill it with water and then the detergent and dont want to hold the container during this. Tides away easy too. It does have a seperate carrying handle for getting it into a car etc. I didnt find the noise was any louder than any other carpet machine. Its easy to wipe a cloth over it for cleaning. Nothing needed for set up, just fill with water and detergent that comes with it, plug it in and your ready. Very good value for money, as I got a refurbished one.Read full review...

Practical and easy to store

I have 3 dogs and my house is open plan, the only place I actually have carpets is the staircase. I had a full size cleaner before (vax) which was bulky and hard to store and heavy. I thought I'd try one of these, and all I can say is why I did not buy one sooner. Its fabulous and just right for the job. I also cleaned my mattress, and was surprised that despite using a topper a fair bit of dirt came out. I love itRead full review...

Powerful, simple, effective

Bought this as a reconditioned unit. It arrived looking almost new. Very easy to manage. I was cleaning a section of carpet within 10 minutes after looking at Rug Doctors easy start video on their website. Tried on carpet, upholstery, and a pet stain and all came up looking like new. The oscillating carpet head is a really great idea and sets it apart from the other spot cleaners. The suction is more powerful too.Read full review...

Great Machine

Great machine. Powerful suction, leaves carpet only slightly damp. Easy to set up. Water tank has useful water level and detergent level indicators. Waste water tank is easy to remove and easy to empty, no need to unscrew. Useful wheels, carry handle and extending pull along handle. Long cable. Unit is narrow enough to stand it on the stairs. Not sure how effective the motorised scrubbing head is, I preferred to leave it turned off and just use it as a scrubbing brush.
Using the machine is not exactly hard work but it isn’t easy either. Especially if you want to go over the carpet a few times. I was doing my stair carpet. I reckon it would be much easier if you were only doing a small area.
Because the hand held scrubber has a clear panel, you can see the amount of dirt and liquid being suctioned up and if necessary go over the carpet again with the detergent or keep suctioning until no more liquid is able to be removed.
Having said all that, I think this was an amazing purchase and would definitely recommend it to anyone considering buying. Just go for it!

Superb machine but can be supplied with a bit more care.

I bought this machine for cleaning the carpets and upholstery in my car. I also cleaned my work swivel chair with it. I bought it reconditioned as I felt the new ones were a bit dear. The machine arrived in its original box which was a bit tatty. There was also dust on the inside of the two containers which was quite visible from outside, which means that it had not been cleaned properly before being despatched to me. It also arrived later than I expected.

Operationally this machine is superb. The carpets and upholstery in the car have never been cleaner. I expected a lot of dirt to come out of the carpets, but I was not expecting the dirty container to be darkish brown when I did the upholstery.

It also sucks the water right out of the carpets and upholstery leaving it slightly damp which dried out in a few hours in the sun. by the way, I took the car seats out of the car, which wasn’t that hard, to clean the carpets properly and upholstery properly.

I also cleaned the seat belts with it. The amount of dirt that came out of that was unbelievable.

Around the house, this would clean most upholstery and small rugs and spot clean the carpet. In fact, there was a horrible patch caused by a leak from a camp lamp containing Paraffin on the carpet in my son’s room. Had tried to clean it with other products which never worked properly. This baby pulled it all out. I would not however buy this if you are planning to to clean all of the carpet wall to wall. It will take too long and would be very hard work. You will need the bigger machine which can be rented from Argos, B&Q and other places.
