An easy way to give wood water protection that is paintable

I used this on a fascia board end that the paint was peeling on due to overflow in winter from gutter caused by the huge amount of pine needles I have to endure. I sanded the board down to bare wood and applied the Wolman wood preservative. The first coat sucked into the wood like water does on cardboard. I tried a second application to be sure but it just rolled off the board as if it was glass. Two coats of new paint and it is now better than new.
