Prevention better than cure!

I bought this specifically for an industrial type metalwork surrounding a huge mirror. As this needs to be left outside Rustins seemed to be the ideal choice to prevent tarnishing and rust. Easy to apply but I would recommend a mask to avoid the fumes. The finish looks great. I've only given 4 stars because the lacquer has only been applied a couple of weeks ago so I cannot tell yet whether this product will stand the test of time.

Easy to apply and It works

Used to protect brass front door furniture after cleaning and polishing.
Three (3) coats applied by brush and the finish looked good on door knocker, key cover and sprung loaded letter box cover. Left 3 days to harden and mounted to the door.
The only disappointment to date is the level of abrasion resistance as the letter box flap surface marking when heavy duty packaging is pushed through.
Would still use this product as it's overall performance to date is acceptable no obvious superior metal varnishes available

Fab stuff to prevent decorative surfaces from going manky looking

Have used this for years to coat copper plumbing instead of using paint. Looks stunning (and cooool). Cellulose thinners based so you need to open the windows for about an hour-ish. So easy to apply and after two or three coats lasts for years (literally). Overall a totally fab product. If you want to prevent decorative metal items from oxidising, this is the stuff to use.Read full review...

Excellent product

I used this to coat copper ware to protect the sheen and prevent tarnishing. The brushstrokes are invisible and the sheen was identical, unlike varnish that would have made the finish too glossy. I like the product, but get cellulose thinners to clean your brush and coat with ample ventilation.Read full review...

nice product

I have used this to revamp my old wrought iron set. It gives a nice shine to the finish. It is easy to apply and the price is right. I'm very satisfied with the result.

Good value product

The lacquer was applied easily with no runs evident; internal door handles have been subject to a fair amount of use with no evidence of lacquer crazing or metal (brass) tarnishing. I await the effect of weather and use on external door furniture, and rating is given four stars for this reason.Read full review...

Excellent product

I bought this laquer specifically to coat and protect the solid brass stem of a table lamp. The lamp has been in the family for many years, although of late it had been lurking in the shed, missing its shade, somewhat unloved and with the brass tarnished. I removed the remaining old lacquer and, using a lathe, polished the brass back to its original shine. The Rustins lacquer was then easy to a apply with a small, soft brush. I gave it two coats. I am glad I purchased this lacquer and that I resisted the temptation to use an inferior product I already had in a spray can. I highly recommend this product. Read full review...

Probably the best

I have used Rustins Laquer for years and have always rared it highly.
You need to polish the item well first and then, most importantly remove all residue of polish. I soak in hot water with washing up liquid. Dry well with lint free cloth or paper towel ... the heat from the hot water will finish the drying ... or use hot air. Apply quickly using the brush as a guide ... rather than a paint brush to spread the Laquer. Does a great job and lasts years.Read full review...
