We don’t find it that easy to buy bicarbonate of soda where we live so in the end we decided to bulk buy25kg.That is a lot mind you but I won’t need to worry for a long while now.We use it for cleaning sinks etc and it’s also good for heartburn would you believe,when mixed with water. When we were able to buy it,it came in 500gm packets which were £1 each. In the 25kg sack.you get the equivalent of 50 packets so buying small would cost you £50. Whilst this has cost us£21.93. I trust the brand (I work for tats but not in their chemicals division). I bought on internet from hexeal chemicals who agin seem to be very good.Read full review...

Tata bicarbonate is a very fine powder and is easy to decant into smaller packets (or just simply re-seal the sack). Store carefully and this will last for a very, very long time.
Research sodium bicarbonate and you will find lots of information (and stories) about the shelf-life etc. but this is a natural product and as such, should last for years to come.

Among it's many other uses, I use Sodium Bicarbonate as a pH buffer for my koi pond. With a pH value of 8.6 making it impossible to overdose in the event of any miscalculation or spillage in the pond, this means I can guarantee a stable pH value within the safe range for koi. A handful of bicarb in the bath leaves skin soft and smooth. It's healthy too, as it's alkaline and helps to combat the acidic effects of pollution etc.
