Better than most.

Looking to provide zone control these thermostats provide an economical and practical alternative to channelling walls.

Functionality is on the better end of the scale. With the ability to switch between 5+1+1 and 7 day mode allowing for simplified programming. In addition the units have a calibration feature not present in many other units.

The only gripe is in the wiring of the receiver. Although fitted with a baseplate this is not where the wiring is conducted and so can be a bit fiddly if replacing an existing controller with short tails. In addition if the wiring is not from the rear then the spacing at the base of the unit makes a single cable (for unit power and control) a tight fit.

A very competent timer/stat. but programming a pain

The instruction booklet could be more accurate and helpful
Pairing the stat with the receiver was impossible from the instructions booklet I had to ring the help line and did it in less than 30 seconds with three instructions from the adviser who I think spends all his day helping people pair the sets. Read full review...

Excellent product but 2 minor niggles

Functionally excellent and programming is reasonably simple. I have only 2 complaints.

First instead of the normal thermostat system of mounting and wiring the base plate before plugging in the thermostat, with this one you have to wire to the back of the receiver unit before mounting. (I had to extend the wires to make it possible).

Second there are only 2 programming options - Individual days or 5/2. There is no option for all 7 days the same so you have to use 5/5 and programme everything twice.

It's only been installed a couple of weeks so I cannot comment on reliability

Well priced and simple wireless programmable thermostat

Easily installed - providing you have access to a permanent live connection, which is often not the case with mechanical or even wired digital thermostats remotely sited from the boiler. Range seems good for even a largish property so the receiver can be sited close to the wiring centre.

Handily the receiver unit is pre-paired with the transmitter so set up is especially straightforward. Can't comment on reliability, but quality seems fine and the manufacturer gives a five-year warranty.

I liked the couple of extra features over the old 500RF model (boost setting especially.

Great cheap alternative

If you just want something that's easy to connect and use then this is ideal. No issues converting from a fixed wall mounted thermostat. Receiver wired next to boiler and was already pared with the main unit (if they are bought as a 1 box item) so no issues there. Programming either in the default 5 days, 2 days or, by resetting in installer mode, can be done as each day individually. Both with 6 time/temp changes if required each day. Read full review...

Gets your heating under proper control.

Extremely useful device so you can set different temperatures throughout the day (and make sure it is cooler at night, but not too cold). Once set up, there is no need to touch the controls again, unless your routine varies and you need a temporary change to the temperature setting, which is very easy to do.

The provided Quick Guide is enough to get going, but you need to download the full manual to explain some of its functions.

Connecting the receiver is straightforward and explained in the Quick Guide, but if you are bringing the wires out on the surface, you need to break away rather more of the plastic back panel than you might expect as the cable clamps do not really work with 4-core + earth cable. They seem to be designed to work better with two separate twin and earth cables.

The thermostat unit can be fixed to the wall, or stood up using the stand provided. The stand is a funny little piece of plastic that you have to work out how to fit to the thermostat, as it is not explained anywhere, and not really obvious, but it works when you fit it in the right holes, although it will fall over it you don't put it down straight.

We have about 10m between the thermostat and the receiver and at this distance they work together through a few walls with no problem.

Not a direct replacement

Not a direct replacement as the wiring terminals are in a different position. The cables had to be extended for my installation of the receiver. The thermostat is similar to the previous model to set up however it is a different shape and even with the stand attached is not very stable. Only fitted a week ago, so far no problems.Read full review...

Great device for the money but watch the instructions!

One of the cheapest Wireless programmable thermostats available so for £35 I would recommend this product as a budget alternative to the more expensive makes. However, it is not perfect as although it is easy to wire directly into the programmer, it makes it difficult to hook onto the wall backing plate. You need to leave enough slack in the wiring to allow the receiver to swing into place onto the backing plate whilst being able to feed the wires into the wire trunking (I pulled the wires through the trunking after connecting to the receiver to the backing plate and then connected to the boiler. Hopefully will not have to remove from the backing plate any time soon!). The instructions supplied were in every language but English so went online for the British version! When pairing (mine did not pair to the receiver automatically) be sure to follow the instructions explicitly, if you need to, as I missed the short sentence that says after first turning on the receiver getting a steady red light and with the receiver in Auto, flick it on and off quickly, whilst in scan mode to start the pair process. Without this quick on and off cycle it will not pair! Once paired it stayed connected despite the boiler being in the garage and the thermostat placed at a point furthest away in a 4 bed-roomed house. Time will tell whether the product is reliable but has worked perfectly in the last few weeks. I have knocked off a star just for its poorly presented and awkward programming instructions and the equally frustrating backing plate fixture.Read full review...

Very good heating controller

Bought one about two years ago and it has been running continuously ever since. Needs some patience to set up initially, but once done it works very well to control on and off cycle of the boiler. Easy to over-ride programme if required.
Only criticism is that the instruction leaflet supplied in the box is not very easy to follow and it attempts to differentiate between several different variations of the product.

Salus Room Thermostat

Very good and relatively easy to programme if you are six years old. An excellent replacement for the more expensive units around. Most are too complicated for the average user to programme.
