cheap and cheerful but that's about it

Not a great Blu-ray player, does not play a lot of old blu-rays even tho you update the player, plays dvd's fine so if you can get one cheap I would reccomend but don't pay over the odds for it.

Samsung BD-P1580 Blu-Ray Player

I bought this on Ebay, as an ex display unit.
When it arrived, it was just like brand new, and came with every thing in the box.

The picture quality is superb with Blu Ray titles....and the upscaler works extremely well with dvd and Divx titles....nearly as good as the Blu Ray titles.This is the best upscaler I have ever seen and owned...10/10

Blu Ray load times are very quick...10/10

The player is very easy to set up....and the firmware can be upgraded with a usb dongle, if you dont have Internet access near to the player.I did a usb firmware update with no problems....10/10

The Audio is good...but I dont think that its as good as it should be....I use an external Yamaha 5.1 amp, with optical inputs, but find the sound from the Samsung to be just OK...And I do like my audio to be perfect....7.5/10

I havent been able to test the HDMI audio, as my amp doesnt support it....so that may be better than normal 5.1 Dolby, that I use.

The only negative thing with this player is the display on the player is very dim..I sit 12 feet from the player, and struggle to see the blue display on full brightness....6/10

An excellent buy at a reasonable price

Basically I bought the Samsung BD-P1580 because all I was using at the time was a Phillips which was getting finicky in it's old age and you had to be quick putting in or taking out a CD because the sliding drawer had a mind of it's own!
Not having any blu-ray discs of my own, I borrowed a couple from a friend and the difference truly was mind-blowing, even my old CDs were clearer, more defined. As my TV is HD and I also use a Western Digital HD media player, the Samsung was the next logical step forward and a step I'm glad I took. 12 out of 10!Read full review...

Great value

The Blue ray player arrived fast and well packed. It is easy to set up and does most of it itself.
I am using it through my projector and it gives great results. I am connecting though composite cables and believe that the quality through the HD cable is even better.
It dos much more than I am using it for, but have not tried those yet.
