Schindler's Ark is compelling, engrossing and harrowing in equal measure.

For anyone whom considers Schindler's List as one of their favourite films of all time then this book is a must for you!
Steven Spielberg's epic telling of the ambiguous Oskar Schindler barely scratches the surface of the man himself and the lives of the people he saved.
Spielberg's retelling has changes to some aspects of the book and omits others, probably to prevent the final cut being in excess of six hours! For example; when Schindler saved Stern from the cattle wagon in the film, it was in fact his factory manager named Bankier and twenty of his workforce that he saved that day.
The book, written by Novelist Thomas Kineally is so rich in description that it becomes a vivid, utterly engrossing and harrowing story in equal measure.
The book tells of Oskar's early days and his 'relationships' with Amon Goeth (the Commandant of Plaszow Concentration Camp) and the SS hierachy, and his almost constant battle against a system he despised, be it through bribes or black market dealings to ensure the survival of not only his workforce but a race of people.
This is without doubt the best book I have ever read and is a fully deserving winner of the Booker Prize.
