Magic in a can

Having heard of contact cleaner from various YouTube videos, I gave it a try still not convinced it would cure my crackling radio volume controls.

Radio number 1 a ten year old Lidl small portable was opened up, given a good squirt on the “pot” and after reassembly there was nothing, no crackling to spoil the Today programme.

Radio number 2 a similar aged boom box from Lidl, and again perfection. This one is a stereo and the annoying imbalance has gone.

The only downside is you probably have to take the radios apart to access the pots, and this isn’t easy for most sets. It is satisfying to overcome the scourge of the carbon track pot that is found in the overwhelming majority of audio equipment.

Brill Stuff!

I had to repair my 40 year old Aiwa Pre-Amp (SA-30K) as the Phono stage had developed a fault, sounded like someone crunching up a paper bag through both channels. I diagnosed the Op-Amp chip so whilst in bits thought I’ll get some of that switch cleaner for the variables, mainly the Volume as it had some noise when increasing but also the others, Balance, Bass and Treble.
Replaced the chip and cleaned all the variables, Amp now sounds honestly ‘Peachie’, back to the way it sounded when new and no noise from the Volume control anymore. Others work perfectly, forgot to mention above the Treble and Bass both had flat areas.
Honestly so pleased and great stuff to rejuvenate old pots. Br generous when cleaning and move pots to full extremes to make sure you’re brushing away all the crud. 5 Star Product.

Servisol Super 10 works wonders

I've always been a bit sceptical about switch cleaner sprays but this stuff is magic on volume controls as well as switches. I've just restored a 1958 Pye radiogram and all the controls were extremely noisy. In fact noisy doesn't really describe the result of touching any of the controls as the crackling was so loud and sometimes you would hit a dead spot. I gave all the controls a squirt of Servisol Super 10 and it was as though the controls had all been replaced with brand new ones.
They were as smooth as silk. Absolutely wonderful stuff and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Top product many uses.

I would imagine that anyone reading this already knows about the properties of Servisol switch cleaner but its value cannot be overestimated.
Although a lot of volume controls are now digital there are still a lot of potentiometer type controls on remote control models and radios which benefit greatly from a little spray thereby reducing crackle and interference.Read full review...

Scratchy Volume Knob

I used this stuff 30 years ago on my old DJ decks and when I recently had a Mid Life crisis and bought a vintage Turntable with built in amp I bought some more to see if it would cure the scratchy volume knob . Took the cover off sprayed it on and left it two minutes and BOOM no more noise.
It has worked perfectly now for weeks
You can buy more expensive versions of Switch Cleaner but why would you ? .

What you need is Servisol Super 10 Switch Cleaner.

I am never without a can of Servisol Switch Cleaner. Ever had a headphone plug that doesn't quite make a good connection with the socket ? Does the plug need moving about a little before it makes good contact ? Does that sound crackle a little as you rotate the volume control ? What you need is Servisol Super 10 Switch Cleaner.Read full review...

Great product for switch cleaning.

I have use it on my NAD 319 amp the volume knob was cracking and loosing balance control as well.

I have applied on all knobs on my NAD once and after a few days the cracking noises where back again, I have applied the product a second time and now is perfect.

Excellent cure for noisy controls.

If you have noise on your volume or tone controls, squirt the potentiometer and rotate a dozen times and it will usually cure it.
Make sure the power is OFF and UNPLUGGED before you apply the cleaner.
An excellent product.
