Great doll. Better than the Hasbro doll that replaces it today. Were it not for batteries, would have been perfect.

Came with Alkaline batteries that had corroded and damaged the voice box which meant ELMO could not talk. I was able to repair the voice box, but it required cleaning all contacts, splicing wires, soldering contacts. Took almost 2 hours with a technical person. Otherwise clean, cute and what it was advertised to be.Read full review

Giggle box needed fixing

I bought it for my 2 year old niece because she liked Elmo a lot. The good part was that I definitely got an original Tickle Me Elmo in the box it came with. The other versions of Elmo are not as cute as the 1996 version. However, being that the toy was 25 years old, the batteries installed in the giggle box were corroded, so not surprisingly it needed a bit of cleaning and repairs. Fortunately my brother has an Electrical Engineering degree, so he was able to fix the gear, repair one of the battery connectors and clean the circuit board to restore Elmo in working condition for his daughter. Looks great but didn’t meet expectations.

Elmo came in original box looked great, took it out to check before giving to our grandson. Didn’t work, probably needed new batteries, opened doll and saw batteries that expired in 2001, they leaked all over inside container, it took me an hour to scrape the spilled battery leakage.after I inserted new batteries the doll speaks when button pushed, but doesn’t wiggle when it says THAT TICKLES.
