Seymour Duncan Jeff Loomis Blackouts Bridge 6 String

Fantastic pickup

I replaced a Duncan Blackouts Metal humbucker in my Jackson Soloist SL1 guitar with the Loomis pickup, and it's a very different pickup. The blackouts metal was set on the higher gain setting, and it had a thick, heavily distorted but rounded, non detailed sound. The loomis has far more detail, you can hear the individual notes more clearly, and is not as distorted, but when the volume is cranked, certainly has enough distortion for metal. It responded more gradually to volume knob increase on the guitar, but will provide enough for death metal as it gets higher. The blackout metal pickup got almost full distortion within 1 or 2 on the volume knob very quickly, and was at full volume and distortion by 4 or 5. The Loomis responded more familiarly and gradually like a traditional passive pickup. It's a little less distorted, but is much more suited to my ears for lead guitar and soloing. I love it. It's worth checking out and installing. I never had the blackout metal pickup set on it's normal blackout mode, so it might have been a much cleaner and more detailed sound if it had been set to it. The distortion was great for extreme metal, but was vague and had no True Clean. The Loomis has far more detail, but is not quite as loud as the blackout metal, duncan's loudest active pickup.Read full review
