To fully enjoy this film requires watching it more than once - a good thing since you will want to do that anyway. Director Denis Villeneuve weaves a web of violence, greed, deceit and purposeful deception which will haunt you for a long, long time. Stellar performances by the entire cast and Benicio Del Toro does, in fact, steal every scene he's in. He may not play God, but he is the Lord's Archangel. You will find the ending a total surprise. Unless, of course, you have watched "Incendies" another incredible film by the same masterful director. Denis Villeneuve is deeply invested in portraying man's inhumanity to man and what goes around comes around. Spanish has a proverb: "A cada puerco se le llega su San Martin." The movie follows Kate Macer (Blunt), an FBI agent eager to make a difference after several members of her team are killed while searching a home containing evidence linked to a prominent Mexican drug cartel. She volunteers to help search for the men responsible as part of a special task force led by supposed Defense Department contractor Matt Graver and his mysterious partner Alejandro Gillick (Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro). But things begin to get messy and many of Kate’s preconceptions are shattered quickly. We trail her on this spellbinding journey of moral ambiguity and blatant violence, and her perspective is what makes the majority of it so surprising.

The thing that struck me immediately about the movie was the astonishing cinematography, which was beautifully done by the legendary Roger Deakins (most known for his work on films like “Fargo” and “No Country for Old Men”). When paired with the superb acting from each and every cast member, you get a knockout of a movie. Emily Blunt is the true stand out here, and seeing her lead the movie after so many great supporting roles is extremely satisfying. This is undoubtedly one of my favorite movies of the year so far, and continues to grow on me the more I think about it. Highly recommended.Read full review...

Drug war drama at ITS FINEST!!!

This film is honestly one of the most gripping i have ever seen. It will leave its mark on you. Whether good or bad, there is no denying the power of this film. Sicario gives you a decent idea of what's really happening in Mexico today. I find myself growing easily attached to these movies. You can't help but think of all the innocent people who fall victim to the so called drug war. A proud culture of amazing people that have turned to drug trafficking out of pure desperation stemming from extreme poverty. Make no mistake about it.. Taut, tense drama about covert American operation against a major player in the Mexican drug trade. Excellent cast, well-written, and makes it hard for you to get it from your seat in fear you'll miss something....my kind of movie.
