Civ IV: Warlords Expansion --- definitely worth getting

Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Warlords is the first expansion pack for Civ IV. It offers a handful of minor changes to the already fantastic lineup: it added 6 new civilizations, 10 new leaders & 3 new leader traits, 6 new units, and 3 new wonders. Warlords also includes loads of rule tweaks, including an option to turn rival states into vassals. I am very glad that the tech tree was not modified too much, so it’s all pretty straight forward business if you are familiar with the regular Civilization IV.

In regular Civ IV defense bonuses made all-out warfare suicidal. As the expansion pack name "Warlord" would suggest, it has a stronger focus on battling. Similar to the great people, in Warlords, you’ll get great military leaders that you can either "cash in" to discover technologies, build special buildings, start golden ages etc. just like other Great People, or you can attach him to a unit, making it a leader. In addition to distributing a total of 20 XPs to units in the stack, it gives that unit access to a set of leader-only upgrades.

Also like the Conquer the World scenarios for Civ III, there are eight brand new campaigns – they essentially rewrite some of the rules of the game to give you a specific task. My personal favorite is the opportunity play as the pesky Barbarians in the Barbarian scenario. Your goal is to destroy as many Civs as possible, and that’s never a bad thing.

Civilization IV: Warlords is a great expansion to a fantastic game. If you really enjoy being an aggressive, combat-oriented player, you’ll absolutely love it. And if you are a more peaceful player, you will still enjoy some of the new Civs and units.

Awesome masterpiece!

To start off this review, it has to be said that Civ 4 is most likely the greatest Strategy Game of all time. It was new, with plenty of new feartures, culture advantages, better combat system, and plenty of races. So Civ 4 was an amazing step into the future for Civilization. That said, the game did lack a few things. There were a few key civs that were missing, and it had a few bugs that direly needed to be fixed. The generals addition was a spark of genious, something that i enjoy thoroughly each time i play. The game also seem to be a bit smarter, and much more difficult. The game plays differently each time you load up a game, and that makes the game far more interesting to jump into each time. Finding a game that hits all the needed ground in the Strategy world is very difficult. There is incredible resource management, the unhappiness is much mroe manageable in this game, and pollution is a bit more beleiveable. The graphics are pretty fantastic, though they could have done a little more to the action scenes even thought they did make some improvements to them in Warlords. There was a ridiculous sound bug that was finally fixed, and the game plays a lot more fluent, especially with my Geforce 7950GT. I have been playing this game since the first civilization graced the world, and while i was too young to understand what the game really was, i never stopped playing, and when i moved on to civ2 i began to realize the greatness of this game. This is a must own for any civ fans, and if you have civ 4 but dont have this expansion, do yourself a favor and get your hands on it. This game is epic!Read full review...

It's so so

It's an ok expansion pack. has some good things about it. The thing I hate most, and the reason I no longer play it, is because of all the nukes you encounter during war. I like to grind it out with your armies going head to head. Not a bunch of stupid nukes killing all your cities. Unlike previous civ versions, the defense feature to shoot down nukes works only about 50% of the time or less. So when the enemy nukes 6 times, you will get hit with at least 3. Just not that funRead full review...

Very Good Expansion

I almost immediately installed this expansion and begin playing. I have enjoyed this series since the first release of Civilization. I ended up only playing one game, before finding the 2nd expansion Beyond the Sword. The additions to the game (as much as I seen) were very welcome. Especially the additions of the Great Generals. I would however recommend getting the 2nd expansion as it adds even more.Read full review...

Essential

Only improves on the original contents. The makes everything you like about Civ 4 even better than before, nothing is the worse having purchased this expansion, in fact everything is the better for it. I strongly suggest that you buy a similar item to the one I have recently purchase, I am defiantly enjoying the item thoroughly.Read full review...

I wanted to try out a new game, and needed it to be cheap. This was the expansion to Civ. 4 and it was fun to play. It was in another language, but it worked out alright.

Why Buy this when you can buy that?

Beyond the Sword, the latest expansion has everything that Warlords has PLUS MORE. The scenarios arent worth paying for it, unless you spend under 8 dollars like I did.

Dont buy, GET CIVILIZATION BEYOND THE SWORD INSTEAD.Read full review...
