Overpriced by manufacturer but discounts available on eBay
The manufacturer of the original product went out of business but another manufacturer bought the rights to make the direct equivalent . It is more expensive to completely replace one of these units by a more modern and much cheaper unit because you have to make good the ceiling after replacing the original housing which puts up the installation cost significantly. Replacing with a push fit MAY202B unit is quick and easy but the new manufacturers' units are priced at 3 times the online price of a modern functionally equivalent unit so what you save on fitting time you lose on unit cost unless you can get a deeply discounted one on eBay. However, the original ones lasted about 25 years (which may be what put the first manufacturer out of business !) and I hear of modern units failing after 6-7 years so if the replacements are built to the same design and material quality the MAY202Bs are probably worth it even at the higher unit cost because you avoid multiple replacements over 25 years.Read full review
