Great movie! (Silent Hill)

I love this movie because I'm a fan of the Silent Hill games. This movie as the same ambient and atmosfhere of the games. I decide to buy it on Ebay because was not released in Portugal and I don't think will ever be released here.Read full review...

Restless dreams and twisted realities

Welcome to Silent Hill. A tranquil beauty spot upon a lake, with definately no creepy monsters anywhere, honest...
For those not in the know, Silent Hill is a mysterious place where monsters dwell, things you actually couldn't imagine...I mean really...
This is the story of James, Rose and their adopted daughter, Sharon. Sharon has been sleep-walking, apparantly trying to reach a place called Silent Hill. This sleep-walking is getting dangerous so Rose decides she should take Sharon back there hoping it would stop the dreams.
Silent Hill is not a normal place, once entered you cannot leave...
There is a very dark storyline of religious mania and tragedy and the atmosphere of this ghost-town is very ominous, especially when the light fades.
I would have rated this as an excellent movie had it not been that there were too many people in it. During the games you wander around on your own for hours trying to find certain people. In SH1, Harry Mason is trying to find Cheryl, his adopted daughter, much like this movie. In SH2 James is trying to find his dead wife. In all of these games, you wander alone for hours in the dark and if you are lucky you may see a handful of other people, also stuck in this nightmare and as messed up as you for being there. The point is you are mostly alone. This movie spent half the film being like the games then it added about 50 people later on....tragic. I personally think the sect was over the top and I could have really done without a 'certain' barbed-wire scene...
Hats off to the film-makers, thumbs down to the dvd cover designers, they gave way too much away!

Silent Hill

As a fan of the whole Silent Hill genre i felt it my duty to write an honest review about this film. Firstly, the fact that it was unfairly slated by the film critics who know as much about the actual story behind Silent Hill as they do about the climate change of Uranus!! is completely unfair. Yes, it is a movie adaptation from the Playstation game series & also from the comic book series, but there is much more to this movie than meets the eye. It isn't your everyday run-of-the-mill teen slasher movie that has been churned out by the industry to numb our very existences, no, no, Silent Hill actually has more life in it than that (excuse the pun!!) For starters, it is briliantly fimed & the soundtrack by Akira Yamaoka (who composed the actual music score for the PS games series) fits the various scenes of the movie exceedingly well, with it's haunting melodies & at times insanely creepy sound effects that basically dare you to watch this movie with not only the lights out, but the back-door slightly ajar as well. For anyone who hasn't heard of the Silent Hill PS games or for that matter played any of them, then this film is probably not for you & i suspect this is what the critics meant whilst damning it straight back to hell. However, based on the suspicion that very few of them have actually heard of Silent Hill or played any of the games themselves before reviewing it seems a tad hypocritical i'm sure you'll agree, but then that is what they get paid for. If you are a fan, as i am of the PS game series, then you will be aware that in the game you can spend countless hours not actually doing that much (or so it would appear), exept for running around in the Silent Hill fog (...scary!!) searching for clues & being treated to various drawn out cut scenes that in fairness are much better than the rest of the horror game genres cutscenes. But this all adds to the appeal of Silent Hill, the fact that it does keep you on tenderhooks & is guaranteed to make you hit the ceiling (as next doors cat lets out a screech that should come from no animal...EVER!!!), the fact that it is much more scary & demented than any other game/comic/film like it & the fact that it moves at a pace that should not be described as slow or steady, but more of it's own pace, basically saying "Hey, i'm just gonna wait here a while & see what happens, YOU GOT A PROBLEM WITH THAT BUDDY!!!" whilst all the while taking refuge on high & watching over all the other recent horror style releases scurrying around trying to cram everything into 90 minuites. The Silent Hill PS games are one of the highest rated horror genre games to have been made & set the bedrock for everything that followed & with a movie industry churning out schlock horror by the bucketfull in recent years, this movie should really do the same. It isn't so much a scary film as it makes you feel uncomfortable in a comfortable way & granted it will seem confusing to anybody who is unfamiliar to Silent Hill, but for those of you who are & love the game series etc...then this film is a must see!!! Great original characters, a plot that is sure to evolve in future releases with many twists & turns to come & a deeply haunting soundtrack, Silent Hill is still the best horror film of the past few years & hopefully will spawn a sequel sooner rather than later. As the sign says: "WELCOME TO SILENT HILL".Read full review...

Silent Hill

Silent Hill is a fantastically thought out movie. Showing the actual original story line of the first game, it guides you through rooms within an apparently desserted 'ghost' town. It does not give away the plot right at the start of the movie and infact allows the storyline to unfold gently allowing no confussion of what is happening, giving away just enough to follow through to the next bit.

The film ending is not deflated but gives a detailed explaination of what has come earlier in the film but not enough to allow a sequel to come through.
I hope a sequel in this film is followed up as one film does not give the popular series of games justice.

It is in the vain as a horror in the same way as the movie adaptation of 'Resident Evil' is.

Silent Hill DVD

I love this film and I had given it to a family member to watch, but I liked it so much I wanted it back in my DVD collection, so I bought it again! I have played the silent hill games and they all are well known for their creepy music and the fog that causes you to become suspicious of your surroundings. This made the game great for anyone who loves horror games and wanted a game that was not full of blood and guts but was more on the physcological side of scary.
The same sort of thing has been used in the film. As the film doesnt contain a vast amount of gore and it was very effective and helped the audience to use their imagination (this could of course be scarier than actually seeing the thing infront of you.)
I have spoke to alot of people about the ending to the film and are very confused about it. Many interpretations of the film have been passed my way and I still can't figure out which one is correct. I don't know if the ending was planned to be confusing. But I think that ending finished off the film nicely as it makes me want to watch the second one which is due out in 2009 (I think)
I recommed this film to anyone.

Silent Hill DVD

I have recently bought this DVD, and although I wasn't sure what to expect, I actually liked it. It isn't a particularly bloody film, but is full of suspense, and without giving the ending a way it can be interpreted differently depending on the individual - perhaps similar to The Blair Witch project. If you like films that meant to give you the creeps set in dark and unclear surroundings then this might be for you, and as many people may know it is based on the Playstation game of the same title - in my opinion it is worth watching and at worst if you don't like it sell it on and get some positive feedbacks!Read full review...

A dark and disturbing horror that is not to be missed

This is a fantastic film for both fans of the computer game and newcomers to the dark and twisted world that is Silent Hill.
The story line is a fantastic blend of psychological horror and the evil that men themselves can do, with a fantastic turn of events that will leave you on the edge of your seat while trying to hide behind it!
I bought the film because I was a fan of the games and was not dissapointed. I watched this with a friend who had never played the games and neither of us could stop talking about it for days. If you do get this film I hope you enjoy it half as much as I did and dont forget to lock the doors, turn off the lights and grab a big bag of popcorn!
One last thing, dont watch alone, the darkness is coming....

Will you travel to Silent Hill?

Excellent film which pays homage to the mystery and horror of the classic Silent Hill video game series. I bought it as an addition to my collection of Silent Hill games, and I would say this film is inspired rather than driven by the game itself. Don't expect a movie version of the games, but you can expect appearances by everyone's favourite characters Pyramid Head and the scalpel wielding Nasty Nurses. Certainly a worthwhile buy for Silent Hill and horror fans alike.Read full review...
