six feet under seaon 1

myself and my wife are big fans of watching tv boxset's and after running out of numerous boxsets ie 24/sopranos/lost etc etc my wife decided we should try 6ft under.so after a swift cheap purchase from ebay it was set,i must admit i was slightly reluctant to see it as im more of an action type of viewer but to my surprise after watching just one episode i was thouroughly hooked , big time !!! .the show is excellent .i kept thinking to myself how can they keep a show going on about a family of funeral home directors but believe me ,they can!.(5 seasons worth).from the very start it just keeps you entertained with its dark humor and personal character life situations from relationships to keeping the family business from larger company take overs etc .all in all well worth a watch ,we are now on season 3 and its still just as entertaining as when we started it .enjoy .Read full review...

If you like weird, black humour...go for it!

I bought this series after reading about it on digital spy,and took a punt. (Fathers day present). It has the kind of black humour that me and my husband appreciate. Liked the weirdness from the first episode and am now totally hooked. I'm only half way through the series but have already invested in the next 4 series!Read full review...

Excellent series

This is a ground-breaking series with excellent actors and very black humour. Friends raved about it years ago and now we're finally catching up!

The HBO television series SIX FEET UNDER, about the members of a dynamic Los Angeles-based family that operates the Fisher and Sons Funeral Home, has an ironically grim, but intriguing premise: each episode is based on the death and extenuating circumstances of the family's current client. When a porno star dies and is brought to Fischer and Sons, an entourage of her former costars appear to mourn her death. In another episode, the family must negotiate with tough Mexican-American gang members who have very specific requests for the funeral of one of their brethren. A sassy drama that is rife with black comedy, SIX FEET UNDER follows other HBO hit series like SEX IN THE CITY, THE SOPRANOS, and OZ. Alan Ball created the hit series after scoring a huge success with his original screenplay for AMERICAN BEAUTY. Ball has written and directed several of the 13 episodes that comprise this first season.Read full review...

Quirky, original, poignant comedy

I have been looking to buy the box set to all 5 series as I have seen bits of them on the television and loved them. Now that they're available for around £15 second-hand I thought I'd buy the first one at least! But in the last few weeks have managed to get all of them!

The series is set around a funeral home in which the family both live and run the business. Every episode seems to start with a death and then goes on to show the impact of the death on the deceased relatives/friends as they go to the funeral home to request their services.

The approach to dealing with the morbid theme of death is what really makes this series work for me. Death is inevitable and to see the way that the writers have shown different characters and their response to death is very fascinating. Alongside this the main characters themselves have interesting lives and the mix of the new deaths and the existing 'living' makes for an exciting collaboration.

If you would like a fresh look at the inevitable in life, a quirky style, with both some dark humour and poignant moments then this would be for you. I would recommend it highly.

Well worth watching!

As a big fan of this series, I never get tired of watching it over and over. There are many twists to this disfunctional family and all the characters are believable. It gives you an insight into the world of "death" but in an informative way. You feel you know the characters after the first few episodes and each episode leaves you wanting more and wondering what will happen next. They all start off with a death which is sometimes a normal death but mostly something bizarre but you can see how it could easily happen in real life. The boxed set was in perfect mint condition and after watching it I sold it to my friend as it was my birthday and I got every episode in a boxed set as a present. My friend is just as impressed.Read full review...
