Better than expected

Tent is well built and very easy to set up. First use was late October in Canada with temperatures just below freezing. I used a UCO candle lantern inside and tent remained warm and condensation free. The tent has great ventilation openings that are well positioned while providing good weather protection. With the guyline system fully staked out this tent is as solid as a rock, I wouldn't hesitate to use this in extreme storm conditions on the coast or in the mountains. Looking forward to using this tent a lot more in all four seasons.Read full review

Sturdy tent somewhere between a hiker and a base tent. Great blackout features

I was looking for a moderate priced 4 season tent with blackout capabilities that could hold up in severe weather. Most I researched were out of my range or too heavy. I would not call this a hiking tent but the manufacturer does. Nor would I ever attempt getting four people in it. At best it’s a two adult and one child uncomfortably or roomy two person. Not tall enough to stand in but kneeling was fine. Color coded pulls made figuring it out easy. We never needed the directions. This tent gets really dark which we wanted. The sun did not wake us and although there was a soft glow from our lights it’s dark enough that you cannot make out shadows or worry about modesty. This tent will not stand out like many fluorescent tents. It will blend into the forests.

Our first use was at 16 degrees, icy rain and high winds. My son and I were perfectly comfortable. The tent did not flap or howl in the wind. There was no moisture inside despite the freezing rain and again the blackout was a joy.

Take down was fast but it doesn’t really go back in the bag. If you added any more stakes, a hammer and drop cloth it would not fit.

All in all we were very impressed. Split up carrying in our packs would have been fine and if we had to use it multiple days as a base tent it would service most people very well.

Great for kayak, motorcycle, or when you can split the weight.

This is the best "big" tent I've ever owned. No comparison to glamping junk at all, and better than a Eureka K-2 XT (3p 4-season dome). It is about 2/3 the volume (and 3lb lighter) of my K-2, but the pole sections are shorter so it packs up smaller. I would say it can easily fit two with gear in comfort, or three if you put their packs in the (huge!) vestibule. Perfect for kayak camping, or dragged in a pulk for winter, or if you split fly/tent/poles three ways. There are so many stakes and guys I leave half behind and it still easily stood up to 25mph winds. I like that its inner tent is dark- makes it impossible for others to see in, good for sleeping in day, and easy to see mosquitoes. You can still see out in daytime. Besides the doors, there is very little mesh, so good against spindrift or sand. Though there are mesh pockets all around, and the ceiling is well above head when sitting, there is no gear loft. I stitched in a bunch of grosgrain loops so I can add one. The biggest selling point for me, besides the nondescript green color, is the mega-vestibule. You can actually sit in it (not just feet sticking out the doorway, but IN the vestibule) and cook or whatever. I made a Tyvek "doormat" for this purpose. Bit of a ramble, but I really like this tent, and got it for a price that lets me ignore the few little things!Read full review

Initial Review

I haven't used this in the field yet but I set it up in the yard to gauge the quality. Every seam is perfectly stitched. The pole sleeves are of durable material. All the obvious wear points appear to be well constructed. Zippers are sturdy. The floor seems a bit thin so a footprint or tarp should be used. For me this is a Jeep tent, a bit heavy and big for a backpack. We had 30-40 mph winds hit a few hours after I set up the tent so I did get the opportunity to be impressed with The Cave and its ability to handle high winds. Bottom line for me is this is a great tent.Read full review

It is lighter weight for its size. and has really good fly.

It is a well made tent and relatively fast and easy to set up with what appears to be good quality materials although it is not worth the money even for the lowest priced one obtained on ebay.
