Balanced sound, terrible casette mechanism

Obviously, I am an old-timer who need a cassette player, because I still have those dinosaurs. The sad thing is that once the unit arrived, after a few days, ate up one of my favorite cassettes (do not worry, I fixed the cassette), despite the fact that it was a 60-minute one. The good news is that after the incident, the darn thing has not caused a problem in the following 8 weeks, which is when I'm writing all this.

The radio reception is a lot better than average.

The sound balance is excellent, although some reviewers complain about a lack of bass. Well, this is definitely nothing you was to dance for rap with in on the sidewalk. Still, it works for me even in the early hours for listening to music and the news on the porch without disturbing my neighbors and providing an enjoyable sonic performance.

I would have given it five stars, had it not been for the antediluvian cassette player mechanism (resembling the one in the first walkmen). You MUST press the cassette control buttons firmly; in that case, it actually works.Read full review...

Glad I bought this one....

I bought this player since I already had one of the same model for my bedroom and loved it, and wanted one for my kitchen. I bought the newer model Sony that I think replaces it, but the sound was not as rich and deeper base so returned it and bought the "previously loved" one on ebay. So far-- so good. I am happy!

only one with everything we wanted..

product was bought for my wifes use,she is legally blind,that being said we searched stores ie? target wal mart radio shack and others. and found several that had everything this one does EXCEPT,,she wanted one that had a audio out jack in order to use a headset to listen.She does a lot of books on tape,dvd,and has everything you would want, this is the only one we found meeting all the requirements we had , mostly the audio out function.Also the ease of operating are such with her vision that she was able to learn the funtions by feel without much difficulty.Can't compare to others as we could not find any!Read full review...

Good Unit

It would get 5 stars if it had a headphone jack, but none was promised so not a demerit. It looked bigger in the photos. This is smaller than I wanted and sounds thin compared to my old Sony Xplod.
