Overall, it is worth spending on this camcorder on a low budget.
I bought this camera just to copy my old tapes to computer. Initially I thought it just an ordinary cheap handycam but when it arrived my home, everyone was pleased to see its size, shape, colour and look. Fantastic ! This is truly 2-in-1 camera. You buy one handycam and get another digital still camera for free because it takes fantastic 3.0 mp picture with just a click of the button and stores in the memory card. The picture quality is amazing. Better to shoot from this camera than your mobile phone as it has manual focusing and zoom which is hard to activate in mobile in a quick sequence. The video quality is superb, like those shot by 3ccd cameras. The stereo sound is so good through the built in speakers as well as through the headphones. There is a flash which pops up automatically when shooting still photos. The camera is stuffed with every functionality that we expect in a professional video camera. The only downside is that it eats battery so quickly that you need an extra pack ready not to miss the next shot. I noticed that when using memory card the battery runs out faster. Looking through view finder and minimising flash use lengthens battery life. Finally, the camera is not light not heavy and stays steady even if you look around holding it. That's a real good advantage. I give 5 stars for this brilliant and beautiful handycam. The focus glass and ring really looks quite odd but that gives a feel that you are also carrying SLR camera. Such a versatile, I wouldn't be without it.
I owned one of these when they first came out. It got damaged and the replacement is not a patch on what this camera can do. I was lucky to find another at an affordable price. It has superb night vision, you can do animation with ease. Tapes may be old hat these days, but can be stored away for years without the worry of storing them online and forgetting where they are.The Memory Sticks are cheap these days, and in my opinion are safer for storage than CD's or DVD's.
