Sony Rocks!

Although slightly older model, I decided on the SR-12 for the 10MP still camera feature in this particular model. Also, unlike newer models that are based on Memory Stick only, the 120GB hard drive can last a MUCH longer time!

The pictures are crisp and I have already got one blown up to poster size with great details! Video recording quality is good - with excellent zoom. Love the touch screen LDC to zip through various options and reordings etc. Also love the face detection technologgy which helps with right focus. Good battery life.

One issue I haven't figured out yet for both stills and video is that in night shots I do see some graininess - more than I expected. May be some filters or adjustment required. (Hate to read the manuals!)Read full review...

Good 2007 tech but limited night vision

Good handycam with large capacity storage. High quality is only 15mb in manual mode. In easy mode, the quality is only 9mb. Night vision is poor in complete dark and only useful if something is really close by. Remember auto focus needs something to focus on. So if something is not in front of it all the time the handycam will slowly try to focus which means many things will be out of focus. Manual mode is quite tedious unless you have time to set up the scene. Of course in good lighting the handycam works really well. Just remember that this tech is from 2007 so it works widescreen but is not true 1080p. This uses interlaced 1080i. But for the money it is a good value. My take on the Sony Handycam HDR-SR12

This is a great camcorder, with all the features you need to make the most out of your vacations and special moments with your family or friends. It is sad that Sony is no longer selling this camcorder, as it is still a great camcorder. The price of the camcorder may be a bit on the expensive side, but it does have great quality, a nice set of features, and works flawlessly to create videos that are easy to watch, edit, and burn.
One of the things about this camcorder that I personally wish were better would be better quality in low light settings, though it does particularly well already. Only problem is the focus is a little too slow at night, and in low light situations, so you may have to wait a second or two before it regains focus in low light. Otherwise, this camcorder is great, and I definitely recommend it for anyone looking for an HD camcorder.Read full review...
