Good but dated
This was an extremely capable HDV camera when it was first produced. It records DV and HDV (1440x1080i) onto MiniDV tapes - it doesn't support recording video onto memory cards.
Compared with its big sister, the Z1, it is much more compact and lightweight, but it does include the pro audio interface add-on which includes 2 x XLR inputs and a hypercardioid microphone.
The one main problem is that it uses Firewire (Sony i.Link, IEEE1394) to transfer video into your computer. Windows 10 doesn't have built in support for DV and HDV capture - it is necessary to install legacy drivers for your computer's Firewire card, and use something like HDVSplit to capture HD video to file.
However, Magix Vegas Pro 17 does enable direct capture of both DV and HDV.Read full review

Not fully working device
I have purchased this camera a while back and briefly tested afterwards but didn’t get to shoot properly until recently. There’s number of things that don’t work: lcd screen light only works when placed against the camera body so you have only an option to shoot through the main viewer which is not great. The batteries do not seem to charge, luckily I hd some working ones from my old camera so I have used these. The HD/DV port doesn’t work and therefore you can’t transfer the footage from the camera onto FCP.
Very disappointed.Read full review
It can connect to a computer via i-link (firewire)
When I bought it I read a lot of reviews stating that it can no longer be connected to a modern computer.
I have a windows 10 and it was just a matter of downgrading the firewire port to legacy and installing a software called HDVsplit works like a charme at passing tape videos to the computer in name.m2t format which can be read in the most popular video editing software packages.
It took me three or four hours to figure it out so I leave here the solution to interested parties.Read full review

Lightweight compared to my TRV900e
I have an earlier model and wanted to be able to use the tapes I still have and also be able to play these to a computer hard drive for editing. This will be used but is also future proofing my assets. Read full review

Camera works fine but LCD screen isn't working, which is annoying... will need to go to Sony repair center.

Worth it for the accessories
The camcorder was bought for spares , but the included accessories were more than worth the purchase price on their own .
