A mixed experience - sharp but not a flat field
The 24-70mm f/4 CZ Sony FE lens has a poor reputation, and after acquiring this, I understand why. Many people think it is very unsharp in the outer field. In fact, it has strong field curvature especially at 24-28mm, so if you focus on a distant subject at f/4 and 24mm the corners of the image will be focused around 2-3 feet. Even at longer lengths this issue is present. On three-dimensional subjects it rarely matters and one effect is that with typical landscapes, focused on the distance and with the lens set around f/8 to f/11, the foreground is actually sharper than it would be without this curvature of the focus plane. Focusing is fast and silent and the lens is a reasonable size; the centre of the image is very sharp across the full zoom range at f/4. It lacks the excellence of a design like the Olympus 12-40mm f/2.8 which we use on MFT, but few lenses for full frame DSLRs even approach the quality of that one. Overall, a good investment at the price, which included VAT for which I am registered. A full price non-refurb would still be a good buy as your main everyday lens on a Sony A7 series body.Read full review

A great little zoom lens
This little lens is light and compact, gives sharp images and is great value for money. Good as an everyday take anywhere lens it benefits from being full frame. Images can be further enlarged using the APC crop function on the camera, albeit at lower resolution. It’s going to be a firm favourite as images have a vibrant quality.Read full review

Sumptuous, sensual and sexy.
A life-long Canon user, after months of panicked deliberation, I recently switched to Sony; buying an AR7ii for still and film duties at my agency. At first, we thought we'd be fighting with the "sony look" (which can be described as "clinical") but after the first two shoots we were giddy over the quality of this cam and lens.
The focus falls off so beautifully and gradually that even in-cam with no LUT applied (and …my awesome lighting of course), our interviews and food stills already looked close to final.
The F4 24-70mm should be the first choice for people like us who shoot daily, and so far it's been a relief and a delight to be able to carry just one standard lens that produces gorgeous images, instead of carrying several primes (excluding the lovely canon L of similar length).
I did compare with the canon L and metabones and also with the amazing G-Master but for price and high turnaround production, the very slight difference in quality relative to the G-Master wasn't quite worth it this time around. At over £a-lot-more, the G-master is likely for people with money and muscles (it's heavy) who produce massive ads and require perfectly round bokeh for the romantic back-lit climax In a rom com. Fantastic lens, if you use it right
You can really go down the rabbit hole when reading reviews of this lens. Some love it, others despise it. The truth, as always, lies somewhere in the middle.
This is a fantastic lens that can deliver fantastic results - if you use it right. It's tack sharp in the centre throughout the entire range, but the corners are definitely weaker. In fact, they never really improve throughout the range. That being said, how often do you care what's in the corners?
It's compact, lightweight, super durable, optically-stabilised and quick to autofocus. That's pretty much all anyone needs to say. Is it worth the £800 new? I'd say no, because the 24-105 is superior and not that much more expensive. Is it worth £500 used? 100% yes.Read full review

High Performing Lens!
When I got this lens, I already had a 55mm which was very sharp. However, I now feel like that lens is redundant. The image quality with this is outstanding and silk smooth. The built in stabiliser helps with lower shutter speed and filming. It's even the same size as the 55mm, which means it's not too cumbersome to carry around and it just feels great to work with. The auto focus is really good. It's fast. A little bit harder to track in lower light but that is expected.
I highly recommend this for anyone who has a SonyA7s. You will not need another lens.Read full review

Superb lens
Well made and balances perfectly with the Sony A7 body. Extremely sharp and the ideal general purpose zoom range. Constant aperture is so good.

The sharpness of this lens is mindblowing.
At f4 there is a bit of blurring at the edges but it's totally unnoticeable. I shoot at f7 all the time and the pictures come out PERFECT. If you can get this lens under £750 BUY IT.
