Very good product with good functionality.

Very good product, it is a little noisy when loading. You can't hear any noise when its playing. It up scales DVD to higher quality. You have to hard wire or purchase a Sony dongle(expensive)to update the firmware etc. I have two one in the lounge and another in the master bedroom. I am pleased with it's quality and performance.Read full review...

Good player, no 'bling'

I bought this machine because it was on special offer. However, independent reviews suggested it was a good buy so I was content it would be a bargain. I think I was right. I've never had any other experience of Blu-Ray, but the picture looks good, and the sound seems ok, although I don't have a cinema system yet. It's simple to use, boots up within a few seconds, and blu ray does look very good on my 32 inch Samsung. Comparing BD with DVD reveals, as expected, more detail, but particularly less noise in the colours. Blacks seem deeper and the whole thing looks very satisfying.

It's surprisingly easy to set up and the remote is simple to use. My previous experience of Sony stuff is that they are hopelessly over-complicated, but that is not the case here. There may be better featured units (wi-fi connectivity for instance) but I do not think the web-linked features are worth the extra cost. My opinion is that a Blu-Ray player should do its core job well: play BDs. Everything else is just 'bling'. The Sony does just that, and it does look good too!

SONY BLURAY PLAYER BDP S360/363

The sony bdp 360 is the follow up to the highly successful bdp 350 and this improved model now supports bd live out of the box(no firmware update needed this time)and has a stack of features likely to appeal to blu-ray novices and veterans alike and can now be had for under £100(new from amazon £94.95 with free delivery)
The all black finish and subtle blue light on the fascia are appealing and with only a few buttons adorning the front keeps the design nice and simple.
Being an entry level player, you get a fairly basic selection of sockets on the rear panel,it has the all important HDMI output,v 1.3,which means HD audio bitstreams, deep colour and x.v colour are all supported.Component and composite ports provide further video output options.
The only real negatives are the lack of 5.1 or 7.1 sound outputs and the lack of a wi-fi internet connection and on board memory, being as sony's ps3 manages both the wi-fi and the on board memory,it's a shame, but don't let that take anything away from this unit, now at under a £100 it's a real bargain, avoid expensive s363 versions that only have a amber backlit remote as the only difference from the s360 yet retail for a whopping £70 to £80 more.
