Another quality product from Sony

I eagerly awaited the arrival of this player, and was not disappointed.
First thing that hits you is the size compared to the S300, it is lower, and not half as deep.
Also, the colour is a better shiny black than the old blue-black of the S300. This matches in better with Sony's current range of surround sound systems, so gives it a more integrated look.
The remote, however, looks very plasticky, and is not the standard usually expected from Sony.
Connectivity is just as before, with the added bonus of the BD live, which apparently means you can upgrade via a LAN connection if you have that option.

But the big news is the quicker load/start up. It is quicker than the S300 in normal mode. There is an option in the menu when you first set it up for an even quicker start. However, it comes with a warning that this burns more power, and the fans run quicker from start up, so I have selected not to use this at this moment.
Picture quality is as expected.

Why Sony

This is a very good unit unfortunatly it is let down with little details; like not being able to open the DVD tray on the handset. I already have a Sony Bravo 56" flat screen and was disapointed to find that this unit will only work in HD format with a HD cable which is not supplied and if you already have a unit like SKY connected you need to buy a HD splitter box and cable(s)

After saying all of that the unit performs very well and the quality in normal definition is extreamly good. I also purchased this unit as it was multi region and on this count the performance is excelent. Overall I would recomend this Blue Ray/DVD player as a very good buy but remember to add in the extra cabling.

Basic performer with great picture and sound and tweakable too!

The Sony Blu Ray player is an excellent piece of kit if you want no frills high quality picture and sound. I have used it both as a Blu Ray player where I have been very impressed by its picture quality and as a CD player where I have also been very impressed by its no nonsense ability to play music in an organic and lively manner without sounding harsh nor unsubtle.
DOES NOT PLAY SACDS. So ignore the wrong info seen on some of Sony's websites! I've tried it with SACD so I can confirm this.
If you use a memory stick with the player it will load disc specific items to it and makes the player not have to slow down from starting to play a new disc by first erasing old info off it's internal memory. This seems to be the only benefit to using a memory stick but to be fair I haven't really bothered to pay it much attention.
All I am interested in is the picture and the sound so if you want all the extra Internet streaming features look elsewhere. My opinion is less extra frills better reliability and performance...
If you use a good quality mains cable i.e. one that is interference damping not the standard one supplied, then you can see an interesting and significant reduction in noise in the picture and get clearer sound if using solely for audio.

Good blu-ray player.

Easy to use. You can operate the TV through the HDMI cable link throu and operate the Blu-ray fromthe TV which is handy. This is one of the quicker players to start up but its still a chore to wait for it to boot up.Read full review...

Review

This is my first Blu-Ray player. Performance seems ok - does what it says on the tin. Not sure how it could do better when outputting in an industry standard digital format?

Upsides - low cost, good quality product, multi-region DVD available (NOT Blu Ray), easy to set-up and use.
Downsides - very slow start up and disc loading. This may be common to Blu-Ray, but it's very slow compared to a DVD-only box.

GOOD QUALITY PLAYER AT A GREAT PRICE

Great picture quality and fairly simple to set-up but the one down side is there is no eject button on the remote so you have to do that on the machine itself so guess there is going to be some quick wear and tear showing on the plastic chrome button other than that its a crackingly good blu-ray player and makes standard dvd's look alot better also.Read full review...

The company that invented blu ray hits the top spot

This is as good as it gets for digital technology without spending obscene amounts of money on a blue ray disc player . When playing a blue ray movie containing dolby true 5.1 the sound and picture is breathtaking . It also plays conventional dvd's as well as a stand alone dvd player . Highly recommendedRead full review...
