Well-made radio, muffled audio is its biggest weakness
The Sony ICF-SW7600GR is a radio of high quality. It is well designed and well made, solid to handle, and I find it easy to use. The PLL tuning and station memory system are convenient. The synchronous detector works well though will lose lock when the signal is weak. For a short-wave listener this should be a good radio to travel with. It is versatile and you won't easily break it.
My interest is mostly in AM medium-wave DXing. The ICF-SW7600GR is not the best receiver for this use. Its RF input stages are wide-band which means strong stations (for both AM and FM) tend to cause images. The images can be suppressed by using its RF attenuator to reduce the RF gain. On AM MW, by itself it is less sensitive than the GE Superadios, but when used with a tuned passive loop antenna such as the Terk Advantage it becomes about as sensitive as a well aligned GE Superadio 2.
Its biggest weakness for program listening is its audio frequency response which is sharply limited by the ceramic filter in the AM second IF stage. The audio has weak bass and almost no treble: the two positions of the tone switch give the choice of muffled sound or more-muffled sound. The audio can be brightened somewhat by turning on synchronous detection and tuning one or two kHz off the carrier frequency but is still sharply limited. This makes speech less intelligible than with the GE Superadio 2 especially on weak stations with a lot of noise.Read full review

Best Small AM/FM/SW Radio?
IMHO, the Sony ICF-SW7600G is a great small radio. It does everything well.
However the Sony ICF-SW-7600GR has the same performance but a much
better memory arrangement. with 100 memories arranged in 10 pages. If you
are on a budget get the 7600G but if you have 20-40 more bux get the GR.
I am a retired Merchant Marine Radio Officer and have had experience with the
Grundigs, Tecsuns, Sangeans, etc. I still think this is the best all around small
travel radio for the money, especially if you can pick up one for $50/60 on Ebay.Read full review

Good short wave radio emergency use
Amazing features in a compact package. I bought this so I could receive information if there is a national emergency and gave the receiver a quick trial. Reviews on this unit were all positive. I am not qualified to rate performance. The number of short-wave broadcasters has decreased since internet use became widespread.Read full review

Sony SW76000GR Receiver
An amazing sensitive receiver for such a small foot print. I use it for AM, Ham Bands (ssb), and shortwave listening. I like it much better than my Tecsun PL-660, which is now a paper weight. I don't leave home without it.Read full review

Sony radio.
Nice features and typical Sony quality. Poor sound with lots of distortion at higher volume levels not unlike the volume that you would use in an average sized room. I am totally surprised that Sony does not improve the sound after so many years of producing this radio. If not for the poor sound, this would be a perfect radio. Unfortunately the sound is what any radio is all about. I would not buy this radio again. If Sony would update the speaker on this radio I would purchase one in a heartbeat.Read full review

Sony's Last Great Popularly Priced Radio? Perhaps the Last Sony Radio?
I'm especially impressed with the selectivity on this radio. It easily holds its own in the 40 and 20 meter ham bands. Very satisfied.
