Excellent machine, works very well; the only downside is that the top cover was very tatty, lots of scratches, but that doesn't affect how it works. The MDS-JE530 has the latest version of ATRAC - Type R. So in effect, recordings are almost indistinguishable from the original, even though the ATRAC system loses part of the music, in order to compress it.Read full review

This is a brilliant machine which delivers great sound and also very easy to operate. Mini discs are so fantastic as they don't take up much room and are in a protective case. Getting your feet wet

I've descended pretty much to the bottom of the nostalgia barrel after having bought this unit. I used to be a heavy portable minidisk user at the end of the 90's and well into 2004-05 when I upgraded to hard disc and solid state portable units. I never owned a MD deck unit but after digging out my old portable player and discovering I could mess around with the optical out on my laptop I decided to make a cheeky bid for this MDS-JE520. I'm very happy with the output from the unit though my Denon amp and I may just try and mess around with transfering some vinyl to the format in the future. As for the specific unit I bought I am pleased with the overall condition as any small marks are otherwise hidden. The lack of a remote isnt such an issue as I rarely even use the remote for my amp either. Overall really pleased to have this unit in my setup that I would never have been able to afford back in the day.Read full review

A great player recorder, but you have be careful with them, they can be prone to going wrong

Sony MD recorders I think are the best, though they are a great sounding format, they seemed to have been stopped now, I think they did have problems with this format, but the one i have works perfectly.Read full review
