Fully featured player, will be tough to top
Sony has long pioneered in electronic equipment. This player has an almost complete feature list. It can play dvds, blu ray, 4k disks. It can also play sa cds, dvd audio disks and of course regular cds. It is a smart player and supports bluetooth along with wired and wireless connection. The wireless headphone support also includes a high bit rate Sony protocol called LDAC. Finally it can stream various forms of high resolution audio.

Doesn’t seem to process 4K disks
This player gives excellent picture and sound on my Blu-ray disks, But my only 4K disc plays for a minute or two and then freezes. I am going to take that disk in to make sure it is not defective, But it’s disappointing because I only bought the machine to play 4K discs.
If the disc is defective I’ll report back and I’ll owe Sony an apology.Read full review

Finally, a true universal player!
Several things usually conspire to push you to enact change. Either planets align, it's September 9, 99, or you decide to replace your 1080p television with a fresh new 60" 4K, your beloved Oppo SACD/DVD A player burns its power board and you've had it with the Blue Ray player that needs another hard reboot. Yeah, time for a change. Might as well see if there's a player that does 4K HDR/Dolby vision/3D/SACD & DVD A multi channel. Tall order cause it's gotta measure up to the Oppo. Little surprise when I start to read about a Sony that not only does SACD but also it's rival DVD A! Almost everything except Dolby vision, but it has HDR10. If this really works I'm gonna free up some real estate in my rack. BIG SURPRISE! I've never seen resolution like this before AND the Dolby Atmos sound UNBELIEVABLE ( deftech towers) Hi res multichannel discs flow raw bitstreams over HDMI to be decoded by the receiver and its like a veil lifted compared to the revered Oppo! Haven't had the chance to check 3D on the projector yet but have a feeling it's gonna be great. Don't worry about this players little quirks cause when it comes to performance the waters fine. Expensive but nice player
I purchased this player to complete my Sony home entertainment system. There are cheaper ones on the market but I wanted to make sure it worked flawlessly with my other components. I have it connected to a Sony Bravia XBR X900e TV and a Sony HT-ST5000 soundbar. Picture quality is excellent. It replaced a cheap Sony Blu-Ray player that I had and, for Blu-Ray, picture quality is comparable so no real gain there. It's a very heavy. I can tell that it has a solid chassis on it. There are no problems with the extensive bass coming from my sound system. I do wish Sony differentiated their remote controls a little more as the TV, Soundbar and UHD player controls all look very much alike. The UBP-UX80 is identical to the UBP-X800 but costs considerably less. The only difference is that it COMES with a HDMI cable so you get more for less. I recommend.Read full review

Best DVD player I have ever owned. This is truly a quality product, as far as I am concerned. It has many features. So, if you are looking for something dumbed down, this is not for you. Great player even better with a Sony 4K tv
Since I’m used to the remote from my Sony 4K tv the remote for the 4K Blu-ray player was very familiar and easy to use. The set-up was fast and easy. It does up-scale 720p and 1080p Blu-rays to tan better picture than i wouldn’t say 4K. I may have been just my imagination, but I thought the picture on my DVD of Babylon 5 looked better than it had on my PS4 Pro. I have encountered one issue, which was connecting my BOSE Quiet Comfort 35 2 Bluetooth headphones. I got the to connect but the audio shudders and is very staticky. I have this problem only with this model as my fathers BOSE Soundlink speaker works perfectly. So until they release an update fixing this I’ll have to use other headphones.Read full review

So far so good. Only have one 4k DVD to rate this product. Currently waiting on another 4k DVD. Due to limitations of only being able to use a 43' Sony 4k T.V. my evaluation may be limited. I got a good deal on the 4k DVD player do I'm good.
Liked the fact that the Sony has a separate output for audio and the T V.. This allowed me to still use my old 7.1 receiver and saved me money. 😉Read full review

Upscales great
We bought this player to replace an older Blu-Ray player after purchasing a 4K QLED TV. Regular Netflix DVD's did not upscale correctly with the older player which resulted in lines thru the picture and jittery text. This new UBP-X800 has a crisp clear picture even with standard DVD discs. It was easy to setup and integrates perfectly with the new TV. Very satisfied!Read full review

Great 4K player
First and foremost, the player arrived as described and well packaged. I set it up in 20 minutes. I diabled the audio processing so that my receiver could do all of the audio processing. I watched " The War Of The Planet Of The Planet Of The Apes". The video was mesmerizing. The Dolby Atmos decoded from the receiver had me thinking I was part of the action. If you are using a feceiver or amplifier leave the audio decoding enabled on the player. It does a great job. Overall, this player is the best value without question.
