A good read difficult to put down

I have read a few of this author's books but I found that so far this has been the most compelling especially with reference to the theory that Henry VIII may not have been the rightful King. This theory ties in with another great book The Daughter of Time by Josephine Tey, a brilliant investigation into the history (fictional) of that time.

A very good book of historical interest. C J SANSOM is an excellent writer. The Shardlake Series is highly recommended.

It's a great whodunit, I learned so much social history, shame I didn't learn it at school.

If you enjoy historical novels, you will love this. If gives so much information about life in King Henry Vlll time. They were very brutal times and the poor people suffered much after the dissolution of the monasteries. The king did nothing to help them, he seemed only interested in a massing wealth for himself and his cronies. Once you start it's hard to put down. It's best to start with book 1, Dissolution and go through them in the order he has written. I'm now reading Heartstone. Read full review...

Good tudor period story

Love the Shardlake series but very disappointed in the quality of this paperback. I made a cover for it as to be honest did not want to touch the book much. Having said that I am enjoying reading it but feel I need to wash my hands afterwards.Read full review...

A must read if you have any interest in history.

A 14th century hunchback lawyer!! At one point an assistant to Thomas Cromwell, makes compelling reading.

I now have the complete series, roll on the next book.

Highly recommended medieval crime fiction!

This is a great book by C J Sansom. Someone sent me the first two books in this series of 5 and I got hooked. Set in the 15th Century, Henry VIII's reign, Sansom writes intelligently and colourfully about a lawyer, Matthew Shardlake, and life in those times and virtually brings his characters to life! I am on the fourth book now and have the fifth and last one in reserve, fantastic to escape into! Five star!Read full review...

Sovereign

A good read if you like a detective story, with the twist that it is set in the time of Henry 8th. If you like history then the two blend together well.

More from C.J. Sonsom please!

I have read this book and all in the Shardlake series. I found them so interesting - if not a bit 'Gorey' in places, but that was the Tudor era! Loved the historical content and the location of Shardlake's office at Grays Inn as I used to work around that area - but not in Tudor times of course- thank goodness! Hope he writes more of these - can't wait! 😊Read full review...
