Not for small hands.

These cut brilliantly and cut much thicker vegetation than I expected.
The bright colour means they are easy to find when you put them down in the garden.
But they open very wide so smaller hands (e.g. size 7 glove) struggle to cut and hold the handles on release as they open too wide. Read full review

Cuts well enough but usability and robustness need to be improved.

The secateurs cut well enough but are plagued by the following problems:
1. The spring constantly falls out during use due to insufficient sized locating tabs on each side.
2. The locking lever frequently activates during use because it is incorrectly positioned and easily activated accidentally by the fingers.
3. The max opening width of the blades is not adjustable and thus no use for people with small hands.
Finally, the quality of the metal used is not good and appears rather "soft".

Good basic low cost Secateurs

I selected this product because of the Spear & Jackson name, and the shape of the handle to register well with my hand.
My first impression was that the locking catch was rather stiff to open and close, but after a number of operations it was easier to open and close.
It is designed for right handed operation only, which is fine for me.
As the blade is carbon steel, I may need to dry it after use to minimise rusting.
The price is very low, so this tool seems good value for the money.

Get the garden tidy

Fit for purpose, sharp blades cut cleanly. Spring mechanism needs avoiding but strong long enough handles to keep clear. Closing latch works well Good value for money and will do the job on small twigs and stems , snappy!Read full review

Comfy and sharp

These secateurs are a great size and shape for your hand and a very sharp, cut easily and comfy to use. The only down side I noticed is the locking mechanism doesn't work perfectly each time and the blades are not fully closed when locked.Read full review

Better Than Felco

For a quarter of the price of Felco 2 which have constantly disappointed me - use them and accidentally put the lock on virtually each time. These secateurs have a similar build and are not immune to the same problem but far less frequently as the locking lever is much bigger than the Felco equivalent. Hence 4 stars. Nirwaki have the most sensible locking mechanism but the price is prohibitive. So pound for pound these Spear and Jackson secateurs are the Best Buy.Read full review

OK but not as good quality as I would have expected. Safety catch keeps catching during use.
