Spy Game

Great DVD with all the extra bits too! Brad & Bob together at their best - what a combo - what more could a girl want. Must see film - action packed with a great ending too.

Intense, Well paced and enticing Spy Thriller

As someone who is generally wary of espionage film, as I have trouble following the twists and turns, the composition of this film was most refreshing.
The plot in a nutshell is so; Robert Redford is on his very last day as a CIA Agent before retirement. He discovers that a former field agent of his, played by Brat Pitt, has been arrested during a prison break in China. Redford's CIA superiors demand he explain Pitt's actions and background. The rest of the story is then told in a series of flashbacks as Redford relates the first time he met Pitt in Vietnam, his subsequent recruitment and training in Berlin and the his work in Lebanon.

Redford's performance is a masterpiece of experience and knowledge; he gives the audience almost no insights into his part's character yet manages to get them to empathise with him the whole way. It really is a joy to see such a master at work. Pitt pulls his weight and gives a good solid performance. The rest of the cast do their job well enough but there's no mistaking the director decided to make this a comparison of heartthrobs from yesteryear and the present day.

The plot and dialogue are a delight as well, there are some really funny gags and the relationship that builds up between Redford and Pitt is a pleasure. So much so in fact you can forgive the film its numerous holes and inaccuracies.

My only one criticism is that there is no effort made to "age" either Redford or Pitt during the whole film, and when you consider the passage of time is at least 25 years this was maybe something the filmmakers should have considered. I question also the way that Pitt manages to wear 90's fashion in 70's Berlin, but, hey, I suppose that's cool for you!

Spy Game - Review

This film is as good on DVD as in the Cinema. The story is action packed and tense, and the lead actors (Brad Pitt & Robert Redford) keep the momentum going all the way through.

The Director has also been very careful about presentation and background thus adding a lot of credibility/realisim to the movie.

Would recommend this movie to anyone looking for an all-packed action adventure with a clever plot line.

Spy Game

Taught, high energy spy thriller where Redford steels the show as a retiring CIA spy handler tryng to save the life of one of his protoges(Pitt) caught in a Chinese prison. The impending vist of the President to China for trade talks means Redfords' bosses are happy to let Pitt burn to avoid incident. Redford uses every trick in the book to buy time and engineer a rescue without anybody knowing about it and all in 24 hours.

Great pace, terrific cinematography and no loose ends...great watch.

SPY GAME - cool, complex and watchable

A well-crafted film. OK there are a few cheesy bits and a bit too much 'all-action' scenes but what do you expect from a Brad pitt movie? Robert Redford plays the role in a very understated / underacted way and steals the show. A convuluted plot but fun to follow if you concentrate. I would say this is one of most watchable espionage thrillers around.Read full review...

spy game , robert redford and bradd pitt

a spy film like no other staring rodert redford and brad pitt in a like father and son role as (pitt) the student learning the ways of the cia trade from the master (redford). without giving away the story this is a brilliant movie with lots of action an excellent storyline with an excellent twist at the end. This is,nt just another spy movie , i would rather say that it is an action film about spys with the most excellent way of being told with the twists and turns of the story line all leading to an excellent climax. It has every thing you need , lots of action ,anticipation and the lovey bit for the missus. Don,t miss out on this much overlooked movie , if you like the usual suspects then you,ll love this .Read full review...

Fair tale

being an avid fan of Robert Redford and my daughter the same re Mr Pitt this film suited us both the plot a little thin but the similarities between Redford and Pitt, in looks, they could have been father and son!Read full review...
