TV series with a classic sixties future vibe.
My appreciation of the original Star Trek is helped a lot by my detachment from it's avid fan base. Taken on it's own merits StarTrek (the original series) is one of those sixties sci-fi shows that has largely stood the test of time. Series two features some classic tales and many of them feel like quality short stories. Yes, Kirk tends to fall in love a little too often and there are a few stories that are hard work to get through but overall what makes it succeed is the trio of Kirk, Spock and Bones. Plus, of course, the sixties future vibe and the dramatic incidental music. I can't say I was ever a fan of later TV versions of StarTrek during the 80s and 90s, but you can see why the legacy survives whilst watching the original series. It's vibrant and colourful and has humour to it. If you are just a fan of vintage TV rather than sci-fi this is still a worthwhile purchase as it holds up better than many of it's genre contemporaries in the US, like the Irwin Allen series Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Lost in Space or Land of the Giants. It's probably closer to match it's significance with British shows like The Avengers or Thunderbirds, or the original US Twilight Zone. So as a non trekkie, I recommend.Read full review...
Star Trek - Original Series Series 2 - 10 out of 10
Hello there,
I have bought series 1 & 3 of this Digitally Remastered CGI Original Star Trek Series on DVD Box Set.
Series 2 is just as good as 1 & 3, Trouble with Tribbles & The Doomsday Machine are amongst my favourite episodes from Season 2.
They introducted Checkov in this season, There's no end of special extra features with this DVD Box Set.
8.5 out of 10 must buy for any Trekkie
Live long and prosper

Star Trek series 2
Having converted most of my old video collection to DVD I was thrilled to find this film gem in digital format. If you watch this in widescreen format, it really does the battle scene great justice; coupled with surround sound, you'll be gripped by the amazing cinematography. I would recommend the director's cut that includes scenes about the relationship between the lead character and his estranged wife and helps you to understand the motivation behind his decision. The run time is 183 minutes for the directors cut and 120 minutes for the cinema version. I was, however, disappointed by the lack of extras, which any fan of this classic would expect to be included. There's only a 20-minute interview with the director and other shot "making-of" vignettes.Read full review...
superb !
Got series one as a present , so after watching it , I had to buy the second. Loved it too.Better detail than the old TV version.
great value for money and watchable over and over
A great DVD box set.
I have the 1 and 3 tricorder sets but not 2.
The extras are good and disc 5 is great with the trubble with tribbles, trials and tribulations( ds9 episode) and the animated version more trouble with tribbles.Read full review...
