It's Danny Boyle. If i need to say more, you need aquaint yourself!

Sunshine is an absolutely fantastic movie, cut together beautifully, starring a diverse cast of excellent actors, and boasting one of the most beautiful yet simple soundtracks for a while.

At the same time as having all you want from a dark outer space sci-fi horror/thriller, all that is intertwined with these 'moments', just very simple 'moments' that I hesitate to call 'beautiful', even though that is what they are, because i don't want to risk making it sound deliberately artsy or convoluted in that way, as one of the beautiful things about it is the simplicity. He (Danny Boyle) just lets it flow so naturally, just lets these 'moments' be and exist as what they are. Honestly, I really can't do them justice using words, you'll have to watch it to see what I mean.

But of course, stuff does happen, there's action, drama, tension, and it wouldn't be Danny Boyle without a little gore or strong suggestion of it.

Yet, it still manages to come back to this simplicity, sort of like one moment everything is happening, you're panicking because you want the characters to survive and get through, then there's this pause('moment' hehe) where you, and even the character(s), are suddenly seeing it from a larger(do i dare to say divine?) perspective, like all the horror is just a simple and beautiful, like passing scenery but in slow-mo, and it certainly doesn't hurt them to be accompanied John Murphy's soundtrack, which on it's own is enough to make emotion surface, again such simplicity, but takes my breath away at least.

But like I said earlier, I do a terrible job of putting this into words, you will have to watch it, if anything just because it's not one to be missed!

Sunshine (2007) - Danny Boyle

I wanted to see this film on the big screen but never found the time to do so -so buying the DVD was the next best thing. I've always liked science fiction movies - especially when the subject matter is taken seriously without disappearing up itself. Sunshine is a 'world in peril' (dying sun is to be reignited by setting off a Manhattan sized nuclear bomb inside it delivered via a mission called Icarus 2 - Icarus 1 went belly up 7 years earlier) movie but the characters are believable (they make serious mistakes, argue, fight and blame one another), not Hollywood cardboard cut outs with perfect hair and skin. The sun literally is the star of the show and the sfx will not disappoint. My only criticism would be that the film is too short (probably due to the budget)and the ending seemed rushed - I would have liked to see more dialogue with a certain party pooper. If you're looking for Starship Troopers or Star Wars, this is probably not the film for you. This film's target audience lies somewhere between those who enjoyed Alien and Solaris. There aren't too many extras with the DVD, some deleted scenes, commentary from Danny Boyle (quite entertaining and informative). Personally, the final scene prior to the epilogue is the most memorable for me, it was strikingly beautiful and no, I'm not spilling the beans - go and find out for yourself!Read full review...

Sunshine (the movie)

Well, this is my first review; and it may in fact be my only review. That should tell you something right off the bat... that good or bad, I feel very strongly about this movie. I feel very strongly in the positive direction, though.
This movie is for lovers of 'hard sci-fi' such as 2001, Silent Running, etc. By hard science, I mean sci-fi that is at least partially rooted in reality, and what is thought to be possible. As opposed to movies like Star Wars, Star Trek, etc. which are more vague in their explanations and the physics involved. Don't get me wrong, I love these movies as well, just for entirely different reasons.
A large part of what I loved about Sunshine was the soundtrack. Sunshine (Adagio in D minor) nearly brought me to tears while watching the movie, and it still evokes a very strong emotional reaction every time I hear it. How often does that happen? Very few songs have this effect upon me.
Another thing this movie has going for it are the first rate special effects. While special effects don't make the movie, they are something very special in and of them self.
If you are looking for a movie that is fast paced all the way through, this is probably not the movie for you, though it does have it's moments. 2001 and 2010 were not the most 'action packed' movies, but they were epic. If you liked these movies, you are going to love this movie. If the names Arthur C. Clarke and Isaac Asimov mean anything to you, you need to watch this movie; you won't regret it, trust me.

Buy It Now!

This film definitelt divides audiences. I personally thought this film was excellent. At times its amazingly beautiful. Expecially the end. If you don't understand whats going on, watch the DVD extras. This film has an amazing layout. It builds up very well. Helped along with a very fitting score. I really like this film. Its a clever science-fiction film with a slight horror twist. If you don't want to watch it for that, watch it for the beautiful visual effects. The sun looks amazing.Read full review...

Sunshine Blu Ray DVD

The Sunshine Blu Ray DVD has to be one of the clearest and sharpest Blu Rays I have ever seen. The detail and contrast on the spaceship, the outer space details and the stars is simply stunning.
Well worth the small price tag for the blu ray format which, as is always the case, will only set to get even better as regards picture and sound quality in the future.
It is only when I look back at the original DVD,that I can see the clear improvments that Blu Ray has to offer.
Quality Blu Ray!.
