A game that defined a genre

The third game in the Metroid series, Super Metroid was also third iteration on the formula that Metroid for the NES defined. Well the first was vast and almost completely none linear, and Samus Returns was entirely linear exploring each sector in sequence as they came up, Super Metroid has a defined path that one can break form if they are skilled enough. It encourages exploration of old locations and discovery of new paths. Criss crossing a cohesive map that makes the whole game a blast to play. This game serves as the foundation for which all future metroid-vania games would come.
Graphically speaking the game is well polished a good example of what can be done with 16bits. The locations are all varied and the enemies have quite a few frames of animation giving them a sense of life.
In addition the game play is tight and polished, allowing you to pull off some amazing feats with the later abilities you unlock. It is also approachable as Samus starts the game with a fairly limited move set and it gives you plenty of time to adapt and learn to what ever new ability you unlock before getting the next one. Much of the tutorialization is handled completely in game with graphical hints and nudges to help the player implicitly understand what to do with their new powers.

Great game. Addicting as heck.

This game is seriously awesome. Really hard, though. I didn't play Metroid on the NES, so this never made it into the collection. Definitely worth the purchase. In terms of quality of the product itself, it was perfect. No issues. In terms of the game, really good game. Jump mechanic is a little weird, but once you get used to it, this game will keep you occupied for a good while. Took me almost 11 hours to get through it the first time, and already re-played it once!Read full review...

Works like New

Despite the game being about 29 years old, the cartridge works quite well. No dusting or cleaning needed. I just popped it right into my snes and it worked fine. My copy had a save file that was already started, but it wasn't very far in the game and probably just used to make sure the cartridge worked. Honestly, I wouldn't be shocked if this was a reproduction cartridge with how nice it looks and how well it works. Gameplay is smooth as usual, and the Super Metroid game itself is nearly a masterpiece of snes gameplay.Read full review...

Prompt delivery and great condition!

I found that the Japanese copies of Super Metroid (for the Super Famicom) are less expensive than the American carts, even though the software on both carts is completely identical, and both can be played in either Japanese or English. So I cut out the tabs on my Super Nintendo that stop Super Famicom games from fitting inside, and the Super Famicom version worked perfectly as expected.

The Cartridge was not really yellowed at all as far as I could tell, and the label wasn't faded from UV exposure.

The game itself held up beautifully. I'd never played Super Metroid before, so no nostalgia here. It has tight controls and an amazing story with great bosses and enemies. The graphics are the height of pixel art, with some neat effects which really show the capability of the SNES. So much so that it actually drops frames if there is enough happening on screen, which was very rare. It took me 8 hours to beat the game on my first try, so don't expect to blow through it in an hour just because it is an old game!

Highly reccommend.

Awesome Truly Authentic Game!

I went ahead and looked at the hardware inside the cartridge. I even posted a reddit post about a chip that I had no idea if it was authentic or not. Turned out to be very authentic. I believe goldstar or lucky goldstar is a premature LG. They must have done some work on the cartridge for nintendo. I tested the cartridge. Looking forward to grinding it out on my SNES. Stunning game it looks like. I saw the intro screen it looked fascinating. Thanks!Read full review...

Best. Game. Ever.

Super Metroid is the best game ever made. It has an incredibly high replay value and has aged impressively well in it's 27 year lifespan. The game is jam packed with exploration and action, I'd recommend it to anyone!Read full review...

The Pinnacle of Metroidvania along with Symphony of the Night

Super Metroid is considered by some to be the greatest game ever made, while I wouldn't take it that far, for the SNES, there isn't many better. It's a top 3 SNES game for me with A Link to the Past and Chrono Trigger. It's essential for all retro game fans to play Super Metroid. Now stop reading this review already and go play it!Read full review...

An old gem

The music, the layout of the map, and the everything in this game is one of the best old gems to own. There are many old games to compare, but this one set a standard to the upgrade process that continued throughout the series of Metroid. One great game to own and will forever be one of my favorite games on the SNESRead full review...

Great Game

This game quickly became my favorite super nintendo game. It rekindled my love of the system. The gameplay is tight and rewarding but not too hard. If you're on the fence, I'd 100% recommend this.

Super Metroid Nostalgia!

I never owned this game back in the mid 90's always wanted to pick it up, but I could never find a good clean copy until now! Also had a snes dust cover with it, the icing on the cake!😆
